Ug. My computer at home broke. The fan stopped working. My friend [livejournal.com profile] kirathaune, because she can do anything, is going to get a new computer case for me, and try to fix it. Although I'm tempted to just give in and get a laptop. :)

My first thought was not about my iTunes, or any documents I have saved (although my mystery story is in there, so hopefully I can retrieve it) but that I have to have it fixed by the weekend so I can watch Doctor Who. My priorities, let me show you them.

In other, much more fun, news...Charlie started bowling lessons yesterday. My BFF, [livejournal.com profile] just5miles enrolled her son in the class, and last week we met up with them there, and just on the off chance, I asked the teacher if it was too late to get Charlie in, and she said no, so I signed him up.

The nice thing is, since he missed the first couple of weeks, it didn't cost quite as much. AND he still got his very own bowling ball as part of the deal.

And, oh how he loves his new bowling ball. I'll have to take a photo of it for you. The colours are the same as 'ultimate Big Chill' from Ben Ten, or something, and this makes him happy.

The teacher, I'm proud to say, is thrilled with him. He picked up the basics very quickly, and is so enthuseastic about the whole thing, I think that just charmed the heck out of her.

He got two strikes with his new ball, too.

I have rehearsal soon, and I wanted to finish the Meme thing I started in the last post, but I don't know how to post pictures in a reply. It's probably dead easy, I just can't figure it out.

Help.

Long story short, I accidently 'sync'd' my iPod, and as a result lost about 1/2 my songs and all my playlist and now it doesn't seem to want to let me into the iPod so I can even add songs back on.

Does anyone know any secret, magical way I can reset the iPod back to before it got sync'd?

My friend in Florida, whom I've mentioned, in addition to the motorcycle they can't really afford, large camping trailer they can't really afford, not to mention her expensive SUV, have now bought 2 Labador puppies from a breeder.

One of the puppies has a congenital heart defect and will die unless it gets surgery that will cost between $4,000-$8,000. She says she can afford the bills if she draws money from her home equity loan. A loan she got because she somehow bounced a $10,000 check. (I have no idea...0

If it were me, I couldn't afford the operation. I wouldn't have a choice. If I could, and had that kind of money to spend, sure, because I know once you open your heart to something it isn't easy to use chilly Vulcan logic in this type of situation, but in her case, where she might be able to afford the operation but at the expense of using money she can ill afford to use...I just don't know.

So, what would you do?

Dear Weird spam thing that popped up as I was surfing the web:

What the heck? It's bad enough when adverts pop up and start talking to me, but when an advert starts talking to me without a pop-up, it's bloody creepy.

And like I'd really believe some disembodied spam voice telling me I won a trip to Florida. Yeah, I'll pick that up right after I pay for the Brooklyn Bridge, thanks.

And I especially don't like the fact I can't figure out where you are, so I can't close the program.

So stop it, kay?

No love,

So I just joined You Tube for no other reason than to upload this slideshow I made and I am pathetically proud of.

Charlie's baseball slideshow

Hopefully this is working.

ETA: Grumble, grumble. It doesn't seem to be working yet. Not sure why. Sigh.

Technology has foiled me again.
Hurrah! It is working now.

So, go look at it and praise me tell me what you think!

PS: I've started a greatest Journal account just in case El-Jay gets stupid. other people are doing this, and it seemed like a good idea.

Seriously. I have it turned off, with the little switch thingy that is supposed to lock the dial so it won't accidentlly turn on again, and suddenly I hear tinny music coming from my purse, and there's my iPod, singing along merrily, all of the sudden. It's not even like I was walking with my purse and something got jiggled. It happens almost every day.

And the weird thing is the song is almost always a Pat Benatar song. Except today it was a Bette Midler song.

Here's a receipe for giving yourself really freaky dreams: First, try in vain to fall asleep, give up and trot over to the computer to surf awhile on the interweb. Download the 2nd half of Lost, since you didn't watch it when it was on, (because 11pm is too late to be watching tv anymore) then watch the episode on your computer at midnight. Be hounded the entire time by a moth that has gotten into your house and seems to want to get intimate with the computer screen. Then try to go back to sleep and drift off sometime around 2am.

Can everyone chant or pray or do whatever works for you that it won't rain in Collingswood tomorrow? Thanks.

Since I actually emailed this guy, I was so outraged, I thought I'd join the party.

Bill Napoli

I think the goal is to get this in enough places so it will come up as the first result if you Google Bill Napoli and hit "I feel Lucky".

ETA: And I'm late to the party, because it already works. This is why I love the interweb.

Jane Austen font. Totally cool. You can download it and then write documents that look like Jane Austen's handwriting.

Hey, little things make me happy.

ETA: I just got my jammies on, and thought I'd share with you the fact I have this ginormous bruise on my thigh that is so dark it almost looks black. Ow.

Oh, and thanks to [livejournal.com profile] modernelegance for the new icon, who did a bunch of Charlie Brown icons on [livejournal.com profile] book_icons

Well I took everyone's advice and downloaded Spybot and Ad-aware, and I bought this thing called spy sweeper, and eventually the computer was cleaned.

So thanks for all the help. 'Tis much appreciated.

And just one more reason why I love LJ so very much. What would I do without you all? I don't want to know.

Right. Off to get some food for dinner now.

We got our lovely fast computer back, and it only cost $80 for a new hard drive. So yay and stuff.

Charlie had a great 2nd day with the new minder - she took him to the pool, where he got to play with his best friend. I'm so pleased Charlie is finally having a real summer holiday.

The boyfriend played with Charlie in the pool, and is a lovely young man. Gonna be a teacher.

Anyway, I had a vampire dream last night, probably because I just read a Lauren K. Hamilton book about vampires, but it also occured to me that I dream of vampires when I'm feeling particularly overwhelmed. I think vampires symbolise to me the act of letting go, of having someone else be in control, in charge, and then I don't have to make any decisions. I was wondering if that was part of why they have such a lasting appeal to writers and movie makers and people who like to wear black alot.

It's really odd. Zombies aren't sexy at all. Werewolves, well, Lupin maybe, but over all they are either savage monsters or tragic figures. Ghosts are either scary or vengeful, or both, but never particularly sexy, but Vampires get all the girls. (or boys if you're Anne Rice)I think it does all come back to control, or losing control, which frankly is what sex is about in some ways.

What do you think?
