There's a Krispy Kreame opening in my town tomorrow. I just drove past it on my way home from rehearsal.

There are people, people presumably without jobs to go to in the morning, who are camping out in anticipation of the store opening.

Camping.

At a doughnut shop.

Now I can understand the camping out for music concert tickets. There are limited seating and usually its only one or two nights. There's a sort of obsessive logic to that.

Camping for a big sale on, say wedding dresses, I can sort of see, although it is not something I would ever consider doing; but if it's a good sale on specific designer dresses, and you're a bride who has her heart set on Vera Wang, sure, why not. They are limited, after all, and likely to run out.

Movie tickets made less sense to me. The movie is going to be playing long enough, tickets shouldn't be hard to come by, so, other than making it into a memorable event, it makes far less sense.

But doughnuts? Really? I'm pretty sure the person who opened the store is hoping to be there a good long time, and if he's selling a limited amount of doughnuts, then he's doing it wrong.

In short. The doughnuts aren't going anywhere people. You don't have to sleep on the corner of a busy street in a suburb to get a hold of one.

And McMillans Bakery is about 10 feet away and they make the best cream-filled doughnuts in the universe, anyway.

I was looking up Educating Rita on IMDB because I’m currently watching it through Netflix, and was curious about some of the other actors - like the guy who played her husband. He was cute 25+ years ago. A couple of the actors are now dead, including the one who played Brian. Sad.

Anyway, I clicked on Michael Caine, just to see what he’s up to, and apparently he’s involved in what I assume is an animated project called "Gnomeo and Juliet. IMDB says it is ‘A version of Shakespeare's play, set in the world of warring indoor and outdoor gnomes’.

Maggie Smith and Patrick Stewart are apparently involved. So is Julie Walters, who actually starred in Educating Rita WITH Michael Caine, so that’s kind of nifty.

So…good cast but…gnomes? Really?

Oh, and Ozzy Osborne is listed in the cast. Not even sure where to go with that.

Several people on my flist are friends with [livejournal.com profile] evilpuppy, and have posted this story of the unbelivably horrible service she received on United Airlines, and I thought I ought to pass it along as well, because the actions of a few people can and ought to reflect on a company as a whole, and frankly I think airlines are getting ridiculous in their brand of non-service, from Spirit Airlines charging for carry-on, to Southwest kicking Kevin Smith off of their plane, to this.

I won't apologize for her actions and I'm not sorry for what happened to you. It's not in our contract to assist passengers with their luggage and we reserve the right to refuse assistance to anyone. If that's what you need, then perhaps in the future, you should make other travel arrangements."
