Walk wi' pride, man!

Today at his baseball game, Charlie made two runs.

One of his problems was swinging at everything, so he's been coached on watching the pitches, and not swinging if it was too high or too low, and today he did just that. He got one strike, then 3 balls, and on the forth pitch the ball whacked him in his back. Yeah, it was a weird pitch. So, in some pain, but triumphant, Charlie finally advanced to first base, and a few hits later he ran home. Naturally I forgot my camera, so I couldn't record the look of utter, utter bliss on his face. He was so very proud and we all cheered like mad.

Few innings later, he's up at bat again. One strike, three balls and WHAM! The ball hits him in the back again, only this time much, much harder. I mean everyone within earshot winced at the sound the ball hitting his flesh made. Poor Charlie was in tears but gamely agreed to take the walk instead of sending in a pinch runner. The whole time he was on base he kept rubbing his back, and the coaches kept going over to check on him. But once again, he made it home, earning another point for his team. Game ended in a tie.

So, Charlie finally got to base. I just hope he doesn't make getting thwacked in the back with a ball his signature move.

Oh dear!

One of my more memorable Little League moments was when I got hit by a wild, fire-trailing fastball right smack on the side of the head. If I hadn't been wearing a helmet I would probably not be typing this right now. As it was, the helmet cracked open and I actually got dizzy from the sheer NOISE of the thing. Apparently you could hear it all the way across the park. That was one of the only times I got on base that season, too.

I always smile when I read your post about Charlie playing baseball, because I've no idea about what you talk about. hehehe. Baseball is a really mysterious sport for me!
Anyway, I'm glad he always does fine. You must be really proud!

Well done Charlie! Like <lj user="atlantel", I really know nothing about the sport, but still. I'm smiling for him.

YAY for Charlie!! I love reading about Charlie's baseball games. He's such a good sport, and nice team player! Sports are hard for kids like Reb and Charlie, and to see him doing so well makes me happy in countless ways!

YAY CHARLIE!
