I sometimes wonder if, taking abusive relationships out of the equation and allowing for the cultural differences and so on, there's not much difference between Love Marriages and Arranged Marriages after you get, oh, say, three or four years in. That omg-so-in-love feeling doesn't last forever, and you've got to develop the knack of living together in harmony before it fades, or your relationship is screwed. If you develop that knack while you're not "in love", well, mightn't you end up in the same place anyway?
I think it's complicated, but I do think a certain kind of love can grow. I think our society makes us think love needs to be fireworks, and I think it needs to be a lot more like a garden. I mean, fireworks are nice, but they don't go on forever.
