Long story short, I accidently 'sync'd' my iPod, and as a result lost about 1/2 my songs and all my playlist and now it doesn't seem to want to let me into the iPod so I can even add songs back on.
Does anyone know any secret, magical way I can reset the iPod back to before it got sync'd?
My friend in Florida, whom I've mentioned, in addition to the motorcycle they can't really afford, large camping trailer they can't really afford, not to mention her expensive SUV, have now bought 2 Labador puppies from a breeder.
One of the puppies has a congenital heart defect and will die unless it gets surgery that will cost between $4,000-$8,000. She says she can afford the bills if she draws money from her home equity loan. A loan she got because she somehow bounced a $10,000 check. (I have no idea...0
If it were me, I couldn't afford the operation. I wouldn't have a choice. If I could, and had that kind of money to spend, sure, because I know once you open your heart to something it isn't easy to use chilly Vulcan logic in this type of situation, but in her case, where she might be able to afford the operation but at the expense of using money she can ill afford to use...I just don't know.
So, what would you do?

on 2007-10-05 12:19 pm (UTC)*shakes head* I don't know what we'd do. We have three dogs and they are all treated well and fed high quality food. We love them to pieces ... and if it were $400 - $800, hell, even $1000, we'd do it in a blink. But thousands of dollars is another story. I know over on
In the end, the answer is probably that she shouldn't have gotten the dogs in the first place. But when people are like that with money, there is no telling them - they just spend, spend, spend until they're in so deep that bankruptcy is the only way out.
Oh, and I have no idea about the iPod, that's technology beyond my knowledge.

on 2007-10-05 12:34 pm (UTC)Even if she doesn't take him back, she definitely needs to notify the breeder, because any hereditary illness is likely to show up in other puppies from either of the parents - again, an ethical breeder would never breed those two again.
This is a worrisome sign about the breeder, actually, since they *should* have been on the lookout for the traditional ailments of the breed, and specifically, the parents should have been examined for mild forms of this defect and then the puppies should have been vetted very early for it. Whether she should pay for the surgery also depends on the likely prognosis, which apparently varies according to the severity of the defect; if $8K will buy the puppy another year at best, it's probably better to regretfully put it to sleep now. On the other hand, even if it will fix the problem more or less completely, she simply doesn't have the money, so. In either case, she should definitely get a second opinion; my parents' first vet told them their dog had a heart murmur that would rapidly be fatal, and the next one said it was minor and harmless. The second vet was right, since he's still alive 2 years later and the murmur has faded to almost nothing!
If it were me, though, well - I'd already have bought pet insurance. :) I realize it's throwing money away as long as we don't claim on it, but that's what it's FOR to me : emergency coverage in the event of an expense we couldn't possibly cover, sort of like the bare-bones "catastrophic" coverage you can get for a person.

on 2007-10-05 02:35 pm (UTC)I'm sure there is nothing I can do except try to find all the songs and get them in the library, but it isn't even letting me transfer some songs I have onto the iPod. It's all greyed out on the computer. Sigh.

on 2007-10-05 08:26 pm (UTC)We had a similar situation with Darien, my second cat. He has a disfunction called Feline Cystitis, which causes crystals to form in the urine, and he can't pee. We got ROBBED at Marlton Animal Hospital, and they charged us, in the end, over 1200 bucks. They didnt help out, one bit. WE had to transfer him to our vet after ONE NIGHT (Cat Clinic of Cherry Hill... awesome doctor) and he told us if this had happened during the day (He doesnt have the all night thing, like a hospital would..), he would have charged us half that. He only charged me 200 bucks after keeping my poor baby two days, taking out the catheter (God Bless him for that... I nearly died when I heard the other place put it in, without medications for pain!!!), adding his new meds and food that he needed, and monitoring his urine. Steve's mom thinks we should have put Darien down, but, this is a condition that is treatable with the right food, and urine testing. Sure, we dont take him often to the vet since he is now completely petrified of the car (and the vet's office), but we monitor his food, and do everything our vet told us too. He's been fine ever since.
We have had emergency visits with each of our animals.. Brinae was first with an allergic reaction to flea medication. That was about 400 bucks. Then Archemedes.. after being with us a week (he was six weeks old when this happened), Darien was playing with him, and scratched his eye and cornea. Steve had to put drops in his eye twice a day, and an oral antibiotic. Almost a grand... Then a year later, Darien. Then last year, Campbell broke his leg. Over a grand there too.. and got accused of breaking his leg myself by the first vet I took him to, which my sister worked for!
If I were your friend, I would call the breeder. If I had the money, I would do it. But, since that seems to be the problem, she needs to call them and holler.
