Charlie stories...

Back in April I signed Charlie up for a summer Karate program that starts on June 25th.

For the last couple of months, Charlie has been telling everyone that he starts Karate on the 7th of June. He would frequently tell me and anyone who would listen, "I can't wait to start my Karate on June 7th!" In vain did I tell him it was actually the 25th, he would insist that he was starting Karate on June 7th.

I realised that he would be dreadfully disappointed if he didn't start karate on June 7th, when I noticed on his magnetic calendar (you know, the one with the little magnetic pieces? It looks like this) he put the magnet that said 'martial arts' on June 7th.

He can be a very determined little boy.

Fortuntely the school that was doing the summer course actually has a class this evening, and the nice Sensei said I can bring Charlie in, and we'll figure out the payment etc later.

So Charlie is starting Karate on June 7th.

Last night Charlie answered the phone, which he doesn't often do (I thought my husband was getting it, he thought I was) and proceeded to talk the ear off this poor man who was just calling to find out about our credit card payment. This, pretty much, was how the conversation went:

Charlie: Hi. This is the *our last name*.
Bill Collector Guy: (probably) Can I talk to..."
My name is Charlie. C-H-A-R-L-I-E. What's your name?

Bill Collector Guy: Warren

Charlie: My daddy's name is Kris. My mommy's name is Carol.

Bill Collector Guy: (again, probably) Can I speak to your mommy?

Charlie: (emphatically): She's busy! (I, er, was playing Scrabble on the computer)

I finally realised I should stop laughing at the conversation and take the phone. The man was very kind.

The funny thing is, Charlie is just not a phone talker. I can't get him to talk to my mom when she calls, but some poor random guy, he won't shut up!

Brilliant! Can I borrow him when my next bill payments are due?

Maybe I can record him and sell it as a screening device!

I was tempted to see how long the man could keep up the conversation. If nothing else, he was extra nice to me when I talked to him. Which is always good!

I would be first in line to buy it if you market it! Too cute!

That's wonderful!

Charlie is so adorable
Actually I think the bill guy should have been happy someone talked to him at all. I *hate* all the telephone nagging

Ooh, are you joining the karate too? Or is it just for kids. Karate's good fun! And I agree with the others - Charlie would make a very good screening program!

I may join the grown up program - I took it a couple of years ago somewhere else, and really liked it.

Couldn't you just move the magnet?

Couldn't you just move the magnet?

Well, it wasn't so much that it was on the 7th that he was just bound and determined to make it the 7th! I don't even know where he got that from.

It's like when he suddenly told me that he'd died on August 9th, 1891.

Wow--and what was your reply to that?

Our three are no longer taking tae kwon do because the oldest son incurred a nasty knee injury on concrete from practicing it. There's no telling when they'll go back, but it won't be any time soon--like within the next six months. *g*

Wow--and what was your reply to that?

I tried to see if I could get any more details out of him - names and so forth! Nothing, though, execept he said 'and then I was in your tummy.'

I find it interesting because it is such an odd date.

(I googled the date to see what came up, too - didn't find much)

That's still interesting!

Did you try wikipedia?

http://en.wikipedia.org

It's quite useful. *g*

xD Brilliant.

I can't get him to talk to my mom when she calls, but some poor random guy, he won't shut up!

Strangely enough, this fits the description of my grandmother 100% O_o

Erm, except for "him".

I hope he`ll have fun at his "martial arts"! :D

All homes should have a Charlie! :)

I need to teach my girls to answer the phone and do that to the telemarketers/bill collectors/everyone. I hate talking on the phone, and I bet that would really cut down on my phone time. Go Charlie!

My mom would love to just borrow him for about a month yea that would stop all those annoying phone calls! And as a second degree black belt in Martial Arts I can hontestly say charlie will love it! Good disapline and good for the body as well. He will sleep good at night!
