Project Runway. God help me I'm talking about a 'reality show'

Back in August when I had my car accident and basically couldn't stop crying, two of my BFF's [livejournal.com profile] kirathaune and [livejournal.com profile] rvnshadow2001 for the record) came over that Thursday with some good beer to cheer me up and watch Project Runway, of which they were both big fans..

It was nice to forget about my own sadness for a bit and lose myself in the show, to just enjoy the good fashions and the bad ones and laugh at the contrived drama of it all.

Since then, they've come over on Thursdays so we can watch it together, and as much as I hated to admit it, I really got kind of hooked on it. I derided Gretchen and her bitchness, shed a tear at Mondo's touching confession, and wondered at some of the judge's choices.

If pressed, I would say that I enjoy the comraderie of watching the show with my friends over the show itself, although, as far as reality television goes, it's nice to see they are there mostly because of talent rather then, say, the people on The Jersey Shore.

And Tim Gunn is probably the nicest guy on the planet. He's like the anti-Simon Cowell. I adore him to bits.

We all cried, cried I tell you, at Michael C's losing. The fact that Gretchen of all people beat him out just goes to show that the producers have more to say in who wins than the judges - because I am SURE she's kept just for the dramalama.

I know Michael C will be fine - I'm sure just getting as far as he did helped his career, just like it will most of the better designers who were lucky enough to land that gig, but he still broke my heart.

The fact he obviously feels his family love is conditional is just heart-rending. That's what was hurting him; not that he lost, or that the judges didn't think he was worthy (and seriously WTF were they drinking, those judges, to pick Gretchen's stuff over his?) but that he was sure his family would lose all faith in him.

I just hope they told him they were still proud of him, or that his partner Richard stood up for him if they didn't- I got the distinct impression it wouldn't be the first time.

He does have a website with his 'couture', which cheered me up some.

And now we can be unabashedly Team Mondo.

\o/ w00t for Team Mondo!

OMG, I never cried so hard during a TV show outside of Doctor Who! We were so caught up in all the emotional stuff we even forgot to hug Charlie goodbye! (which he wrote us on our FB walls about!)

Well, he didn't hear you leaving like he usually does, either. He ran outside to try and catch you guys and everything.

I told him to give you both 'Facebook' hugs, but I guess he decided to chide you for missing them instead! :)

I'm in the same boat as [livejournal.com profile] jpgr; I haven't watched a whole lot of Project Runway since it moved from Bravo to Lifetime.

And who doesn't like Tim Gunn?
