I haz a cat

Yesterday morning around 6:45 my next door neighbour knocked on my door and told me her daughter had rescued a cat the evening before, during a rain storm. Knowing how cat mad Charlie is, and having already 3 cats, one dog and 2 rats of her own she really couldn't keep it, asked if I wanted to take it in.

What with Charlie's heart being broken only the day before, and being rather cat mad myself, I said 'Well, I can take it in temporarily, get it tended to and then find a permanent home.' Talk about denial.

So I take in this tuxedo cat. She told me it was a boy, so after some phone and email debate Charlie and I named Trinculo.

I made a vet appointment that evening and off we went to find out if the cat was healthy. It was. It was also a pregnant female.

Ooookaaayyy...

I was told they can still do the spaying; effectively a kitty abortion. It's really the right thing to do. The shelters are already awash with unwanted kittens, no point in bringing in more. So, she gets her shots and we set up the appointment. I knew it was going to be expensive, but when I got the call later that evening with the actual price I just about had a heart attack.

It was over $300.

Sleepless night of worry, but this morning I called the ASPCA and they can do it for $75. Crisis averted.

So, she goes in tomorrow, and hopefully all will be well.

Here she is:

We've named her Andromache. It's a properly pretentious name, I know, but it's Shakespearean (and Greek) it's a character I really enjoyed playing, and, more morbidly, she's a mother who looses her child.

You've done a good thing. I hope she'll recover well from the op and be a splendid addition to the family.

Now you have joined the cult of cat owners. Gooba gabba gooba gabba gooba gabba one of us one of us. I hope you enjoy subgating your will to your purring, furry over-lady.

Awww, she's lovely! Best of luck to you, Charlie, and Andromache!

Wow, that's a gorgeous cat! She looks kind of like a youngster herself. Good luck tomorrow!

(/me tries hard to not want a tuxedo kitty to add to the collection and utterly fails.)

As I've been trying to say since you've posted this, cats are supposed to have pretentious names. Check out T.S. Eliot's poem "the Naming of Cats" as proof.

Hell, I've named my cat Chaucer and that's fairly pretentious.

A friend of mine named his cat Oppenheimer, because, he says, all cats are really evil and should have proper 'bad guy' type names. :)

Evil??? Ugh.

Your kitty is a sweetie!
