*Points to icon* That photo was taken in 2009, at Thanksgiving. A comparable photo now would show that Charlie is now about a half and inch taller than I.

In less than a week, he turns 14, and in exactly 1 week he starts high school.

Yesterday morning, we went to his High School orientation. When we arrived, he saw a bunch of kids he knew, and so went to sit with them, with nodded encouragement from me. One was The Girl, but he's apparently over his crush and just happy to be there. She gave him a hug when the met, so I was pleased to see she still likes him 'as a friend'.

I sat on a bleacher alone, half-listening to what the students were being told and wondered, as all parents do, where the time went.

Is he stil going to have support in school?

Yeah, he's 'mostly' mainstreamed, but he's still getting extra help. I think his English class is 'multiple-disabled', and his maths class. They will adjust it if he needs more or less help as he goes along.

I mostly hope his social life takes off. He's old enough now to go off and do things with friends without his mommy tagging along, and I hope he does that this year.

I always got the impression that he needed more support with the social side of school. I do hope he has a positive year.

These kids are too huge! I told Kieran we need to stuff him in a mold for a while, so his clothes fit longer (and so he doesn't get taller than me just yet - he grew three inches this summer and is now only two inches shorter than me. I'm not ready for this!)

Charlie continues to be an inspiration...wish I could introduce him to K. I bet they'd get along so well! They have so much in common. And I wish I could meet you guys too. You've inspired me a lot with the play thing and the single thing, and the finding a nifty boyfriend thing. It's all wonderful.

I know how you feel! Logan was three when I created my journal, and he's in fifth grade this year! Time flies.
