Don't you, forget about me...

So,who here was around to see The Breakfast Club when it first came out?

How many of you were a little too young to see it in theatres but saw it on video?his

How many of you are saying, 'Breakfast Club? That's the Brat Pack or something, right?'

I'm asking because this show Charlie likes, Victorious, did this parody of it and it was...well...weird.

I mean, the kids doing the parody weren't even born when the movie came out. I wondered if they watched it to see what they were parodying, and if they thought it was relavant, or just stupid.

And then...it was a bit disturbing, because they substuted tacos for weed, and 'vegan' for 'virgin' and it just felt...wrong, somehow. Also it was scary how well I knew the scenes they were parodying.

And then I felt old because something that, for good or ill, defined my generation was being parodied on a genearally annoying children's show.

Victorious, for the record, is made by Dan Schnider, who seems to think that physical violence is funny as long as its a girl beating up a boy, and that if you yell loudly enough it will be funny.

Drake likes that show also and we watched that ep with him sat night, it was majorly weird for us too lol

Drake did see The Breakfast Club last fall when it was on Starz (or HBO, I don't remember), so he understood the entire parody.

It was mid-eighties, right? So before I was born, or around the same time. I suppose it could be considered well-known enough to still parody, but I've never seen it.

And then...it was a bit disturbing, because they substuted tacos for weed, and 'vegan' for 'virgin' and it just felt...wrong, somehow.

That sounds suspiciously...censorship-y, actually. (I mean, maybe in context that made it a hilariously funny send-up, but I doubt it somehow.)

"The Breakfast Club" is one of the movies that helped me be a better parent.

The scene between Andrew and Allison when he confronts her in the card catalog (I think) and starts grilling her...asking her about her home life, if it's bad, if it's her parents...then he sort of whispers:

"What do they do to you?"
"They ignore me."

Heartbreaking.

Also, when they're talking and Claire, I think, says she's never going to be like her parents and Allison says that it's inevitable, that you can't help it, that when you grow up your heart dies.

Mannn, I kept those quotes in my mind as I raised my kids. I tried not to ignore them, and I didn't let my heart die.

One of my favorite movies of all time. I wish they would have made another one, with the same people, years later as adults...I always thought it would be at a convention or something...or HS reunion. I wish those characters could have been revisited. :)
