So,who here was around to see The Breakfast Club when it first came out?

How many of you were a little too young to see it in theatres but saw it on video?his

How many of you are saying, 'Breakfast Club? That's the Brat Pack or something, right?'

I'm asking because this show Charlie likes, Victorious, did this parody of it and it was...well...weird.

I mean, the kids doing the parody weren't even born when the movie came out. I wondered if they watched it to see what they were parodying, and if they thought it was relavant, or just stupid.

And then...it was a bit disturbing, because they substuted tacos for weed, and 'vegan' for 'virgin' and it just felt...wrong, somehow. Also it was scary how well I knew the scenes they were parodying.

And then I felt old because something that, for good or ill, defined my generation was being parodied on a genearally annoying children's show.

Victorious, for the record, is made by Dan Schnider, who seems to think that physical violence is funny as long as its a girl beating up a boy, and that if you yell loudly enough it will be funny.

It was mid-eighties, right? So before I was born, or around the same time. I suppose it could be considered well-known enough to still parody, but I've never seen it.

And then...it was a bit disturbing, because they substuted tacos for weed, and 'vegan' for 'virgin' and it just felt...wrong, somehow.

That sounds suspiciously...censorship-y, actually. (I mean, maybe in context that made it a hilariously funny send-up, but I doubt it somehow.)

The scenes I think were part 'getting crap past the censors' and part 'making the parents laugh', because I don't (I'd hope) the kids didn't understand what they were 'really' talking about.

The creepiest part to me was this one bit where they basically took what was a fairly sxeual moment between Judd Nelson's character and Molly Ringwald's character and changed it from talking about sex to talking about tacos. And it was the bully girl character saying it to the ditzy girl charater. I wondered if the writers realised how Les Yay they were making that scene.
