So I'm watching House (more on that in a minute)and a commercial for our local "Fox News" comes on, and the guy says something about how some doctors are using leeches for treatment, and how they are helping.

Maybe they are, but all I could think was, first we have people who want to stop teaching evolution and start teaching creationism in the classroom, and now doctors are using leeches again. How far backwards are we actually going to go?

Now. House. Three Stories. Wow. Excellent episode. Television, when it is good, can be amazing. Hugh Laurie needs an emmy, stat.

Hugh Laurie needs an emmy, stat.

Hell, Hugh Laurie just needs accolades from large masses of the population.

Blackadder? Brilliant.

Jeeves and Wooster? Very, very, good.

I saw that ad as well. It made me a bit nervous. Didn't medieval medicine suck? And, you know, KILL PEOPLE?

Pretty soon we'll be monkeys again.

Disturbing, isn't it? But they've discovered that some of the old-fashioned treatments did have some merit - they're using maggots again, too. (Not that I can resist the same thought about how we're rapidly devolving back to the Dark Ages, but I did find the explanation of why both methods worked to be plausible and convincing, if disgusting.)

They've been using leeches for years now. I remember when it was the Hot New Thing in the 1990s. See, they stop blood from clotting better than anything else we have, so they're good for preventing blood clots in small, localized areas.

They're also using maggots to eat away necrotized flesh from a wound. I have a way harder time witht that than I do with leeches. Bleah.

"Three Stories" is the best House.

My mum is a nurse, and she is pro-leech. I think I am, too, actually. The less drugs I have to take, the better I like it.
