It's Talk Like a Pirate Day
You know, I will never, ever understand the concept of SCUBA diving for fun. I just just about manage snorkeling and then only if I don't go too far out. When we went snorkeling in Hawaii I stayed over the reef so the ground didn't look too far away. Why people find it enjoyable to go deep into the water where sharks and things live I will never understand. Well, I mean, I'm sure looking at the pretty fishes and exploring underwater is fun on some level, I just couldn't do it. It's like skydiving. The scary outweighs the fun in my book.
Anyway...It's International Talk Like a Pirate Day, as my morning radio show was kind enough to remind me this morning. So, shiver me timbers and all that.
Oh - On Saturday we went to the Discovery Musuem as part of a larger activity day that I may expand on at a later date, and this
made me giggle. I don't know why it was there - The Discovery Museum is one of those 'please touch' places where children Learn Through Fun. I don't know if they sent the thing to the President, or if it was part of some national thing where he colored in pictures for children's museums throughout the land, or if it was just something he did during a UN meeting, but there you go. Good to know he can stay in the lines, at least.

Ah, but the scary is the fun. I know whereof I speak, having flung my body out of reasonably-serviceable aircraft quite a few times. The night jumps were the best....
AIRBORNE ALL THE WAY!

I got to dive in Hawaii and Mexico, and saw a reef shark (2' long) only once. The rest of the time, it was me looking at coral, and feeding CheezWhiz to grouper (they love CheezWhiz in the can, don't ask me why).
I loved that diving felt like flying. You just floated along, without having to worry (much) about breathing; just a check of the gauges every few minutes or so.

Theoretically I get why it would be fun, but I just couldn't do it. Scares me. I'm a big baby, I guess.
