Charlie's future...
So,
cloudofcalm, who lives in the UK, has this opportunity to come to the States for a bit, but unfortunately the school she got assigned to is 100% not what she wanted, the people in charge of this thing obviously not paying attention to what her strenghs are. However, everything that is wrong for
cloudofcalm seems like it would be a perfect place for Future Charlie to go to.
Peddie School, is a prep school and they seem to focus on more scientific and technical things in their curriculum, which is really right up Charlie's street. And it is in New Jersey, too.
Naturally there are some issues. One, Charlie is only eight. Two, I can't afford a private school. (although apparently 42% of students have some sort of financial aid.) Three, I don't know if it would be a good environment for him - not sure how an Autistic child would fare in that type of setting. Four, I don't know if I could bear to have him board away from me, and I don't know that there is a public transportation system that would get him from here to Heightstown.
Nonetheless, I had mommy-visions of him trotting off to class in his dockers and Izod shirt, blond hair glinting in the autumn sun, his arms full of books with impressive titles that have words like theory' and 'quantum' in them.
ETA: Turns out the husband works very close to where the school is located. So he could drive Charlie there. Some day. Six years from now.

When I was small, I had a lot of problems paying attention to directions and interacting with other children. When I was in daycare, I had to take my playtime at naptime and my naptime at playtime, because none of the other kids wanted to play with me and the daycare workers didn't want to deal with me. I was even kicked out of one daycare, because apparently the strange things I said made a daycare worker cry. When I went into first grade, my teacher pushed to have me put in a remedial program. But my mum never gave up on me. She knew that while I had a hard time with things that seemed to come easily to other kids, I still deserved the same chance that every other kid got. She fought really hard for me.
You remind me of my mum in that way, and I know that Charlie is going to do wonderful things someday. Like any of us, he has strengths and challenges, and I think that your belief in him will help carry him over any difficulties he might encounter.
As for me, well, you may have noticed that I have a couple of degrees on my wall, and am doing all right for myself in the world after all. I have my mum to thank for that. :)

I hope I can raise Charlie so he never feels like there are things he can't do.

I don't think Charlie would have a lot of trouble beeing in a board school. He seems to be the type that would be best friends with his roomate - not the whole floor, right, but a select few. That's the impression I got, anyway. He seems to really like the friends he has already
Of course I'd like to believe there are good local not-private schools which would cater the same scientific approach on a high enough level

And if you don't, and still decide to come, maybe we can meet in Real Life!
