My musical genius

I love it when Charlie impresses people.

Today and tomorrow there is a craft fair in Collingswood, and we went wandering through it. One of the booths sold walking sticks and flutes made from bamboo, and walking sticks that are also flutes - it is very cool.

Charlie, being Charlie, wanted to try a flute, so the nice man showed him where to put his lips and Charlie, after a few false starts, got a note from it.

"What note was that?" The Husband asked, showing off Charlie's skills.

"G Sharp," Charlie replied.

The man at the booth's jaw dropped. "He's right. That's a G sharp flute. How did he do that?" he was truly amazed. He said to Charlie, "I'm going to call you 'G Sharp'".

We went back a bit later, when the other person, a woman who actually teaches flute, was there, and she also showed Charlie what to do, and was also impressed with Charlie's talent.

Charlie was just happy because he was getting some sound out of the thing. Later The Husband tried it, and when he succeeded, Charlie shouted, "Now you're cooking!" to the general amusement of all the people in earshot.

So now Charlie owns a $15 flute made from bamboo because I couldn't resist.

And, as you can see, we didn't go to the grandparents. Mom forgot she had stuff to do.

That is nothing short of amazing. I had no idea Charlie had so much musical talent!

Perfect pitch is indeed a rare talent. I only have perfect relative pitch, so I can tell if anyone is even the tiniest fraction off pitch, but I spend a lot of time watching X-factor type shows with my toes curled up and my teeth on edge! Can Charlie read music?

Can Charlie read music? Yes, he's learning piano, and learning to read music there.

I think Charlie has the same problem - if something's off pitch - i.e. his mommy's singing, it bugs him!

How cool! and what an excellent skill for Charlie to have. I could see him having a lot of fun with music.

WTG Charlie! That's just amazing!

I wish I could do that too!

I hope he has a lot of fun playing the flute!

I'm starting to wonder what Charlie can't do ;)
