And so this is Christmas...

Another holiday come and gone.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I like to donate to charity as a gift for my in-laws, per their request. I am the only one who actually does this, but whatever. This year, I thought it would be fun to donate to a British charity, since they are both Anglophiles as well, so I gave to Danda, a UK organisation that helps people with various disorders, including Autism.

I know it's silly, but I was hoping for a bigger reaction to my gift to my nephews. If you remember, there was that whole nonsense with my sister-in-law, so I wound up buying for the family with five kids. Getting a 'family gift' is nice, but we're talking five teenaged boys ranging from the ages of 13 to 18, the eldest being in college, so it isn't easy to find something they'd like. I knew they had iPods, so I got a $50 iTunes gift card, figuring they each could get 10 songs. I also got this thingy that plugs your iPod into your stereo, so they could all enjoy songs together. I thought it was cool. I guess they liked it, but I suppose they are all too old and cool to give big reactions to things. Whatever.

Charlie, of course, had a great Christmas, although this year I really had to point out to him several times that gifts aren't the point, and he has to learn not to be greedy. He kept asking 'Are there any more presents for me?'. I think he was just feeling a bit overwhelmed by the excitement of it all.

My sister got him a metal detector and first time out we actually found something. Buried under a couple inches of dirt was a Gameboy game that had been missing for ages. And it still works! Now if we can just find that pirate treasure...

What gorgeous stairs! *architecture nerd*

Hey, I have one of those degrees behind Charlie's head!

I can't believe the Gameboy game still works! That must have been exciting for Charlie, actually finding something good the first time out.

Oh, that's so cool! And since you live on the East Coast, you might actually be able to find some historical treasures. Around the older areas in North Carolina, lots of people find buttons and coins from pre and post-civil war, and it's fun to hear them talk about it.

Sorry, I'm a geek...

Glad Christmas was good for everyone, and for the record, if someone had given me a $50.00 gift card and a stereo adaptor for my ipod, I would have been in raptures. I'm sure they liked it.

Oh, damn you! You're the reason I have "So this is Christmas" running through my head!

That's a cute Christmas picture of Charlie! I love his anticipatory expression. =)

I need a metal detector, I'd be interested to know what I would find!

hehe i don't think it is a charlie thing i think it is a kid and xmas thing. My seven year old checked a few time for extra pressents and was lovingly but firmly told he had heaps, but the biggest one was the 14 year old who felt hard done by...he got $120 from assorted relatives then came here with sister to be with his dad and us and got chocolate and lollies, designer glasses, sudoku, and other games and a road code to study for his driving test and licence.....and he felt hard done by and didnt get as much as the other kids (who got the same ammount spent on them but smaller junk....tamagochi etc.)and he actually resorted to tears at one stage.
thank god mine although younger are better behaved...gives me a horrid proud sense of satisfaction.

I like the idea of donating to charites, not many do. AT dad's funeral mum asked for no flowers just money to the St John abmulance and only 2 people donated. Sad!

glad you had a good christmas.
