Utopia, or OMG the chemistry between Jack and Ten is HAWT!
The largest problem of being a Doctor Who fan in my particular part of the world is that none of my RL friends watch it, so I have no one to talk to about it, and efforts to force them to watch it have been met with resistance. So, in RL, I am all alone.
This is why I am sending out an appeal to you, my friends on the web, or at least those of you who watch Doctor Who. I want to talk about the latest episode. I want to squee and say OMG and talk about the brilliance of getting actors like Derek Jacobi to be in it, and John Simm, and just the overall brillance of the show.
So, I'm starting the dialogue below the cut, and I hope someone, or many someones, will talk with me.
Right. Where to start? Jack clinging to the outside of the TARDIS is a good place.
I know some people don't like Martha's jealousy of Rose, but I think it is very real. I'm glad they didn't just have the doctor get over Rose like she'd never existed, this makes it much more realistic* this way. And were I in Martha's place, I'd feel the same way, especially when the first thing Jack does is ask about her. It seems like every time Martha thinks she is making progress in the Doctor's esteem, the shadow of Rose comes between them. And I don't want the Doctor to get romantic with Martha, but he still doesn't 100% appreciate what she brings with her. She's had to care for him twice now, when he's been out of his element, the first when he was human and the second when they were stuck in 1969. He's still mourning Rose, though, so he can't really see it.
There is such chemisty between Jack and the Doctor, it's almost overwhelming. If they don't snog before the series end I will be sorely disappointed. And the actors are having such fun working with each other.
The whole reveal with the Master was amazing. At first I thought that somehow the Professor got the Doctor's watch, and then when realisation dawned on everyone, myself included, I was practially screaming at the screen. It was so cool.
John Simm. Fantastic. So pleased to have him in the show. Best bit was when he said "Let's have a long chat about my plans so you can figure out a way to stop me, I don't think." Funny. And his 'bye-bye' at the end. Love him.
It makes the fact that the Master (or Saxon's) minions told Martha's mum about the Doctor more interesting, because when he arrives in that time, he knows about Martha already, and is probably hoping to use her as a weak point, should the occasion arise.
Anyone have any theories on how they will get out of the End of the Universe? My guess is the Doctor is going to fix Jack's Time Agent watch thingy.
It was heartbreaking when the Doctor was screaming that everything changed, that it was only him and the Master now, because it will make it that much harder for the Doctor to destroy the Master utterly, because then he'd be alone again.
I'm glad we got explanations about Jack and why the doctor left him, because frankly that bugged the heck out of me when it happened.
And I have to wonder how much a part of the evolution of Torchwood Jack actually is. Maybe that will be revealed when Torchwood returns.
*for a given value of real, of course.
That's it. What do you think?

Oh, and I loved the quote I'm using as my icon.

I don't have a problem with Martha's jealousy of Rose per se; I just have a problem with the motivation for it being a crush on the Doctor. Following on S2 Rose talking about mortgages, it's repetitive. Is every female companion going to be romantically infatuated with the Doctor from now on? (And, heck, considering Jack, the males too?) There's so much the Doctor offers, there can be plenty of other reasons to go along with him, and have other feelings toward him.
All the same, despite my nagging annoyance over this issue, I'm hoping we'll have a repeat of the Parting of the Ways kiss between Jack and the Doctor, only this time, the Doctor initiates it!
I love love love John Simm's Master. And of course, Derek Jacobi's, but John Simm is the one we've got for the long haul, and so far he's wonderful. The Master is one of my favorite old-school characters, and I'm squeeing with joy over his return. I hope they don't kill him off (for the umpteenth time) in this arc. Not that he should be a regular, but he should come back every once in a while.

Yeah, I can see your point. I figure she's (Martha) just fascinated by him, and that tends to translate into crush. I would like to see her not be pining for him, really, but I can totally understand why she is, so I just go with it.
Frankly, as much as I really liked Rose, I never quite saw what it was that made the Doctor fall for her as much as she fell for him. Well, yeah, pretty and loving and all, but so were most of his assistants!

To me, it makes sense to a certain degree, just because of when she came into his life -- someone to turn to after the trauma of the Time War. I'm perfectly willing to accept that Rose has a place among the most important companions the Doctor has ever had; where I start to get twitchy is when it's implied on the show or said outright by fans that she's the most important forever and ever, and all those people before Rose were meaningless. Not even considering Susan, who has to be important as his granddaughter, but I think Jamie, Jo, Sarah Jane, Romana and Ace, and Charley if you count the audios, could share that pride of place with Rose.
It's kind of absurd anyway, to think that in 900-plus years of living, the Doctor has only truly cared for one 19-year-old human. Kind of insulting to his character, that.
Sorry. I have a tendency to go off on this rant at the drop of a hat. :)

It would be very much in keeping for the Doctor to fix the time jump thing. I can't see how the episode would progress without it. I wonder, though, if he won't jump the whole ship.
I also want to know what Jack was doing on Ellis Island in 1892.
And Ten and Jack snogging...yes!
I think Martha truly loves the Doctor and more than just on a level of infatuation. She offered to go talk to Matron, proving that she loves him enough to give him up. I think the Doctor doesn't understand how much of a gem he has in her. Of course, I don't think he understands much of anything in interpersonal dealings department right now.
I think he's withdrawing from everyone.
