This sign turned up on the corner of our street. My guess is it is for the people over the road; I know they have at least 1 autistic child (although I thought they were old enough that one wouldn't consider them 'children' any more).

My Crazy Downstairs Neighbour has an autistic son, but he's in full time care, so is only here on the occasional weekend.

And then there's Charlie.

It's almost like they figured there's enough Autistic people on our road to warrent the sign or something.

Charlie wanted to take this photo, by the way. We also took a photo using his DSi; he wrote on that photo "I am Autistic".

The only thing I can think of is instead of me having to apologise and explain to the driver who's car Charlie just darted in front of, I could have just pointed to the sign.

It's really kind of odd.

Though I have worked with some autistic children in a school setting, I don't have an extensive amount of experience and only limited knowledge of autism. I wasn't sure if the sign was because some children with autism tend to get caught up in their own world and wander more or something of the like. I mean, any child could dart out into traffic. Though it is good that more people are learning about and becoming aware of autism - wouldn't a "children at play" sign have sufficed?
