This was hard, actually

A meme I gakked from [livejournal.com profile] narcissusblack It was hard actually thinking of 12 movies I'd like enough to quote. Then I cheated and went to here - http://www.imdb.com/ to find quotes. So anyway...

1. Pick one dozen movies that are ones that you have special feelings about.
2. Pick a few lines of dialogue that mean something to you.
3. As people guess the film, strike out that entry.
4. If possible, after the film is guessed, explain why that movie made the list.

1. Character A – It’s not fair
Character B – You say that so often, I wonder what your basis for comparison is

2. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible. - [profile] zambonigirl got this. One of my favorite movies ever. [livejournal.com profile] crossbow1 - I suppose "Harry" could have stolen this line from Shadowlands...

3. It's not easy having a good time! Even smiling makes my face ache! [profile] aurictech go this one. Rocky Horror Picture Show. So very many fond memories of that movie...shouting 'where's your f*ing neck you neckless f*' at the screen, throwing toast and rice and water at the screen, yelling 'darkness virgins' when people don't put the lighter out fast enough...ah, good times.

4. Wouldn't you just *die* without Mahler? [livejournal.com profile] agatha_s got this one. This is one of my favorite movies ever. I made it a point to read every book referenced in this movie, which was fun. This is another movie my best friend and I would watch multiple times.

5. We may be a small country but we're a great one, too. The country of Shakespeare, Churchill, the Beatles, Sean Connery, Harry Potter. David Beckham's right foot. David Beckham's left foot, come to that. [livejournal.com profile] katje0711 got this. I love this bit in the movie, Love Actually. I laughed when I saw it, having known from reading The Guardian online that this was pretty much many people's feelings in GB about the US.

6. I always thought it was a ridiculous name for a prison. Sing Sing, I mean. Sounds more like it should be an opera house or something.

7. If I were creating the world I wouldn't mess about with butterflies and daffodils. I would have started with lasers, eight o'clock, Day One!

8. It's K-K-K-Ken c-c-c-coming to k-k-k-kill me. [profile] zambonigirl got this one, too. I thought this one would be easy - kind of a classic line. Funny, funny movie.

9. Oh Frederic, can you not in the calm excellence of your wisdom reconcile it with your conscience to say something that will ease my father's sorrow? guessed by [livejournal.com profile] ciara_belle. I had this movie on tape when I was in High School and my best friend and I watched it all the time. Kevin Kline was a sublime Pirate King.

10. I'm not deprived; I'm delinquent. There's a difference, you know.

11. I am Ergo the magnificent. Short in stature, tall in power, narrow of purpose and wide of vision.

12. Oh, king eh? Very nice. And how'd you get that, eh? By exploiting the workers. By hanging on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in our society. [livejournal.com profile] valis2 and [livejournal.com profile] ciara_belle got this! It's probably pretty obvious, but I love that movie. It is so quotable. Am SO hoping to see the play "Spamalot" when it debuts on Broadway.

I believe that #2 is When Harry Met Sally, and #8 is A Fish Called Wanda.

[identity profile] zambonigirl.livejournal.com 2005-01-10 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL. Who's zambinigirl? Hee! Zamboni! I love that...

[identity profile] charliesmum.livejournal.com 2005-01-10 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I knew I was spelling it wrong, but I forgot to check. dur.

It just cracked me up. But it came up as a true tag, so I clicked to see if it was a real poster, but it's not. Odd.

#12: Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

[identity profile] katje0711.livejournal.com 2005-01-10 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Is #5 Love Actually?

[identity profile] crossbow1.livejournal.com 2005-01-10 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
#2 is "Shadowlands." I saw it on stage. I remember that line because one of the guys I saw it with quoted it as a reason why he was getting married right out of college.

I've seen #1 and #4 but I can't place them. I have an image of Judy Davis saying the "Mahler" line...

[identity profile] charliesmum.livejournal.com 2005-01-10 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
#2 is "Shadowlands." - I got it from When Harry Met Sally. That's not to say the screenwriter didn't get it from Shadowlands, though.

I'd have to look up the actress who said #4 - hint: It is a British movie.

[identity profile] crossbow1.livejournal.com 2005-01-10 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
The play of "Shadowlands" has been around a lot longer than "When Harry Met Sally," although I think the movie of "Shadowlands" might be newer. In any case, I'm pretty sure the line is based on something C.S. Lewis said.

9---The Pirates of Penzance
12---Monty Python and the Holy Grail. *g* That's from my favorite scene in the whole movie.

4. Educating Rita

[identity profile] lizzyrose89.livejournal.com 2005-01-10 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Is #11 Shrek?

[identity profile] charliesmum.livejournal.com 2005-01-10 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. It's from a movie WAY before your time. Well not 'way'. Before your time. It was a bad, bad movie, too, so the odds of you seeing it are probably slim. I loved it though, mostly because it was so silly.

[identity profile] lizzyrose89.livejournal.com 2005-01-11 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, well! It's just that the 'short' comment made me think of the evil prince-dude from Shrek!

[identity profile] aurictech.livejournal.com 2005-01-10 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
#3 is from The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Dr. Frank N. Furter [Tim Curry] speaking)

[identity profile] charliesmum.livejournal.com 2005-01-10 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Why am I not surprised you know this? :)

[identity profile] jessii-6.livejournal.com 2005-01-10 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
well... I am shamed to say I don't know most of these. I'd recognize #12 - but that's so easy. #11 seems such a 'damn I know it' sort of thing - but I guess I really don't :)
and #7 rules. I want to watch that movie just because of this quote alone

[identity profile] charliesmum.livejournal.com 2005-01-10 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't believe you of all people didn't get number 1. It's how we met! :)

[identity profile] jessii-6.livejournal.com 2005-01-11 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
of *course* I got no.1 ... I just figured it's also too easy - might give other people a chance

[identity profile] charliesmum.livejournal.com 2005-01-11 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, good. I was worried. Number 7 is from Time Bandits. A really funny movie. I recommend it highly.

Number 11 is from this really bad movie called Krull. My friend Trish and I saw it in the theatre (back in the 80's) and we were two of I think a total of 4 people in the audience at the time. So we had a good time talking out loud and stuff. And we really liked that quote. We used to say it all the time.

[identity profile] jessii-6.livejournal.com 2005-01-11 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Time Bandits is very famous. note to self to see it. Krull is famous too, actually. At least I didn't watch them :)

[identity profile] dracul-moon.livejournal.com 2005-01-12 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
is 6 from 'Broke down palace'?

[identity profile] charliesmum.livejournal.com 2005-01-12 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
is 6 from 'Broke down palace'?

Nope, sorry. It's Breakfast at Tiffanys. Audrey Hepburn's Holly Golightly says it.
