(no subject)

Here I am, posting from Dreamwidth. Just...well...just because, I guess.

Am wondering how many of my LJ friends are migrating/have migrated here. I'm hoping some of the communities come here, if LJ really is going the way of the dinosaur, because I really like the communities I'm a part of on LJ.

I think it's kind of interesting that TPTB on LJ haven't noticed that DW has gotten tons of new members as a direct result of the cross-posting kertuffle, and haven't at least tried to do some damage control.

Anywhoodle...

Who else is coming to Dreamwidth? Anyone? Buller? Does anyone get that reference anymore?

*waves at you* I'm here! I kind of like it, actually.

I think LJ is trying to Ignore the outrage, and hopes everyone will settle down.

All my gift fic comms have already moved here, and one of my RP comms is moving as well.

Hello! I'm here too. I've turned off automatic payments to LJ; I'm going to let my account there lapse to Basic; as I know damned well that a lot of my friends do NOT like change and are not coming over to Dreamwidth no matter what LJ does. And I still can't import Femgenficathon over here, and that comm is important to me.

I think that's why LJ isn't doing any spin control. They're hoping sheer inertia will take over. And if it doesn't--well, I think it's a safe bet to say that LJ's staff does NOT like its English-speaking customers. This is what's been going on:

- The staff's blatant disregard for LJ's own Terms of Service and Privacy Policy...

- LJ's disregard of the fact that ALL public AND friend-locked entries currently allow for cross-posting to Twitter/Facebook... "Once we implement this change, it will no longer be possible to cross-post screened comments or comments left on Friends Only entries. " (IE: not NOW!)

- "Share This" link now shares whole posts with over 50 various 'social networking sites'... rather than just sending one e-mail with link (which is the way it used to be).

- The staff is refusing to do anything for "a couple of weeks"...when they know this is a serious security/privacy bug.

- LJ will allow customers to "opt out" of all other forms of "journal promotion"--but not these.

- Staff are allowed to troll the News site and to be overtly abusive to its userbase in writing...and then deleted everything to cover their tracks. AND they get keep their jobs afterwards; after all, they're not doing anything that would be considered outrageously unprofessional in any other business...oh. Wait.

Like you I've turned off automatic payments to LJ (the b'stards implemented this change a couple of days after my last yearly payment went through!). I'll let my account lapse to a basic one and probably deleted most of my posts over there (they're imported into DW and I have backups).

I've seen several friends move over to DreamWidth in the last year or so for various reasons, including something to do with logging links followed to certain sites for advertising purposes. Those didn't affect me, so I stayed, but my journal is locked for a reason. I don't want it to be public. I trust my friends, but I no longer trust LJ.

I'd be even happier if a DW paid account cost about the same as an LJ one, and if they had image hosting. However I have at least three other places I can put pictures and link to them, so that will have to do for now.

Hello! :D

[identity profile] placeboweek.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, back when Ben Stiller was funny and not a douche who endorsed a scummy credit site. :)

I have a Dreamwidth account but I haven't done anything with it. I suppose if all my LJ friends abandon LJ and head over to Dreamwidth, I'll do so as well. I'm glad you're cross-posting.

[identity profile] charliesmum.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
I kind of keep forgetting about DW but I figure I need to keep my hand in, in case all my friends defect there.

Somewhere in there is probably some sort of clever, cold-war reference I can make; what with LJ being Russian owned and all, but I'm not really feeling all that clever right now. :)

[identity profile] placeboweek.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
In Soviet Russia, livejournal blogs you? :)

[identity profile] charliesmum.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
WIN

[identity profile] charliesmum.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it was Ben Stein.

[identity profile] placeboweek.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Doh! It is Ben Stein. Not that I can't tell Ben Stein and Ben Stiller apart, I just typed the name without thinking.

Ah, back when Ben Stiller was funny and not a douche who endorsed a scummy credit site. :)

And creationism.

They *have* noticed. In their last news entry they stated that they are going to change things so that locked entries cannot be cross posted.

The way I see it, anyone truly concerned with privacy would have all of their entries locked in the first place, so people bothered by the cross posting really have no reason to complain about it if their entries are public.

I'm on DW under the same name, but I don't hardly get on there except as an afterthought.

[identity profile] moon-chylde.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
And the "Anyone.... Bueller?" reference is from Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

[identity profile] lareinenoire.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
I know that reference and love that film.

I'm on DW under the same name, but I am chronically lazy and haven't actually used my account at all. If enough people from my flist migrate, I may just start crossposting, but I don't really see myself leaving LJ altogether.

[identity profile] erinlin.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Ferris Bueller's Day Off! Love that movie. ^_^

And I am moving over to DW, but I'm keeping my LJ too.

[identity profile] crossbow1.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
So far all but one of my LJ friends who created a DW account still mostly uses LJ.

[identity profile] dragonwhishes.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
I have a DW account, as Chassit, but I don't know many people on DW. It's mostly just people from LJ.

I'd add you, though, if you wanted me to.

[identity profile] charliesmum.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 11:09 am (UTC)(link)
Add away. I am Charliesmum there, too. Was easier that way. :)

[identity profile] pookledo.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
I've joined but I think I'll still be using LJ primarily.

[identity profile] bookgrrrl.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 12:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm over there- archaeogeek I have imported my old entries from here but not posted from there. I just wanted to have a place to land in the event of an LJ emergency. ;)

[identity profile] cerisaye.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I have Dreamwidth but hardly ever visit there and haven't bothered to cross-post. I attempted to import my entire LJ over, minus comments, lost my internet connection and haven't tried again. I've been here so long (7 years) I don't want to leave unless forced to because all my Friends & Comms defect. Anyway, I am on DW under the same name if you want to add me in case of mass migration. I suspect if LJ goes the way of the dodo I will likely cease blogging altogether.

Yes and yes...I have an account, but I've hardly written anything for quite a while on either site. Same username as here.
