My Day Off

I woke at 8am, and not it's 9:33 and I'm in my jammies and robe, playing on the computer, while Charlie plays his scateboarding Gamecube game, still in his jammies.

Possibly I should be doing something useful with the day, like cleaning the house, but I don't wanna.

I downloaded some lovely icons this morning, including several from someone called [livejournal.com profile] celandineb (hopefully I spelled that right) that are Oscar Wilde quotes. Which is just totally cool.

My neighbor (who is 13)asked me yesterday if she could borrow my Labyrinth DVD, which was amusing because I had been planning on watching it last night, since for some reason there'd been a plethora of Laby icons lately and it put me in the mood. So I suggested we watch it together, which we did.

Charlie never saw it before - not sure why, but I guess I didn't think he'd be interested. He loved it, which surprised me.

It was sweet. He watched the beginning very quietly and then said, "You can't take people's baby. It's against the LAW!" and crawled into my lap. He laughed at the Goblins, and really enjoyed the songs, (he is already a David Bowie fan) and worried out loud about Sarah trying to get her baby back throughout the course of the movie.

It was fun.

And, I just love that movie. I'm really pleased it managed to find an audience over the years, because it deserves it. I pointed out to (my neighbor) that it was done without CGI and computers and the like, and she was amazed. It was all Muppets and sets and camera tricks. Not that there is anything wrong with movies using computers and whatnot, but it's nice to see something so well done that didn't it, as it were, by hand.

Anyway. I should go get showered and dressed, I think. I'll be back.

Now I have to decide what icon to use...

Chelsea and I watched the "making of" video on my Labyrinth DVD last weekend, and we just swooned at Bowie with his smile, and got totally jealous of Jennifer for being allowed to dance with him...bah! Not fair!

No! Don't do anything useful on your day off from work! I'm off work today and I'm moving house so I don't get to enjoy it properly. Although now all my stuff's here I'm tempted to leave sorting it out for later...

I played the soundtrack at work for awhile, back-a-when, which was a straight pipe to the subconscious considering how hard I had to concentrate to get all the little numbers into the little boxes. I was amazed by the storytelling in the lyrics, and discovered that I hadn't caught the plot worth spit watching the movie.

Though I did always look fondly on David Bowie ever after. Wonder if I ended up with that on CD somewhere? ;D
