Er...Help?
Nov. 6th, 2006 10:21 amAnyone out there know any Welsh?
See, the thing is my character in my NaNo story is called Carys*, which is a very Welsh name. Her father is from Wales, although his family now lives in Newcastle. I just had Carys and her dad have a conversation on the phone, and he says I love you to her in Welsh. I tried to look it up, and I found this: 'Rwy'n dy garu di”.
The internet being what it is, however, I'm not really sure I'm saying what I want to be saying. For all I know it means 'Shut up you moron.'
And here's the first chapter ( for anyone who cares )
*Because there was a character in Torchwood with that name and I thought it was pretty, that's why.

Hurrah. I'm actually up to 1,728 words, which is pretty good for me, and I'm starting to get a feel for the plot.
I really wanted to make my character from the UK, but was afraid it would be hard to make it natural, so I've made her an American who spent a lot of time in the UK. I think I can handle that. This was I won't make her sound like a cartoon Brit, what ho, pip pip and all that, and I can mix American and British, which is something I tend to do anyway, so ha.
It's a story idea I had awhile ago, but my original character was SUCH a Mary Sue. She was just too smart and sassy for words. I think I've made her much more realistic.
I have, however, named her Carys, pronounced Caris. It's a name I got from Torchwood, because I thought it was pretty. It means 'love' apparently. Which, by the way, makes the Carys in Torchwood that much more interesting, due to the nature of her involvement in that plot.
Anyway, just thought I'd share. I'm rather pleased. NaNoWriMo is awesome.

NaNo and other stuff
Nov. 12th, 2005 10:42 amWell, I'm up to 15,520 words in my story. That's not too bad. Not sure how good the story is, but whatever. It's getting the words down that count.
In my story my main character is left an antique lap desk that should Be Important Later. I googled 'antique lap desk' images, so I could describe it properly, and found the perfect desk. It is exactly what I need in my story, and it turns out it is worth about $3,000, which is nice. For my fictional heroine, anyway.
Last night my husband was playing with his band in Asbury Park, so Charlie and I had dinner at the Pop Shop. I had this really good cheese sandwich - I decided to be adventurous at try the goat cheese sandwich that had olive tapenade on it. Because I love tapenade. It was really delicious.
Meanwhile, Charlie has been saying all week he wanted to go to the Pop Shop for breakfast on Saturday because they have this 'kids pajama party' where the kid gets a a free breakfast if he or she is PJs. So we went again this morning. Lots of adorable kids in their adorable pajamas. The owner, Connie, took photos of all the kids and it will be on their website in a week or so. I shall point you in that direction when the time comes.
Anyway,
justleakynow's husband was working last night and today, and this morning teased me about how often we show up there. It's my goal to get my own table. Well, not really, but how cool would that be?
Why is it some people on ElJay seem to go out of their way to be belligerent? I posted something on
lost_tv yesterday, mentioning this pretend "Driveshaft" website. I wasn't sure if the site was an 'official' site or a fan made site, and said so in my very first sentence: I don't know if this Driveshaft 'fan site' is an official Lost site, ala the Hanso one or not.
This person's reply was: Considering that a huge number of us on LJ know the fans who run the site, is this really a serious question?
I mean, is it just me, or is that kind of rude? It seems to me the person is deliberately trying to bait me.
Meanwhile, I had a theory about Lost that I posted there, and shall put here under a cut for anyone who cares:
( theory which is mine )

Got this on one of the NaNo forum - True terror is to wake up one morning and discover that your high school class is running the country.-Kurt Vonnegut
Which I find amusing mostly because a member of my high school class is actually running for Assembly right now. Lou Greenwald.
He was in my English class one year. I vaguely remember him as a typical 'jock' type. Nice enough. Slightly pompus, as his mom was mayor or something at the time, but still a good guy.
I'm quite pleased with the new 'insert image' feature, er, featured on ElJay. Am posting this photo just because I can.

How's this for a headline? Cruise liner fends off pirate attack. Sure grabs the attention.
I was going to save this icon for when I'm mentioning something about Bush, but I like it and want to show it off. Thanks to a user called

Well, I'm chugging along nicely with my story. Hurrah. Worked on it a lot last night and a bit this morning, and some just now, so I have a nice healthy number of words under my belt thus far. Not sure if I'll stay the distance, but it's a start.
Can anyone who wants to let me know your name on NaNo so I can add you there? And please add me back. Thanks.
