charliesmum: (Yea!)
The blanket is sewn together. It still needs to be blocked and bits of yarn need to be threaded in and/or cut, but the second it was done Charlie picked it up and walked away with it, so I'm not sure when it will happen.

The best part is, he came back a minute later, gave me a big hug and said, "Thank you for my blanket."

Not sure what I'll do with myself now.

In an unrelated topic, can anyone explain to me why people bother to record bits of their video games and put them on You Tube? Charlie's discovered this, and spends way too much time watching these things. Some of them are 'bloopers'. Seriously, bloopers?

It's really bizarre.

A little over a year ago, I started making Charlie a blanket made up of little squares. He'd requested 13 squared, or 13x13. In other words 169 little squares.

Today I knitted the last square.

13 rows of 13 squares of all sorts of colours, all ready to be sewn into a blanket.*

Charlie is so thrilled. I shall post a photo when it is finished.

*I sewed the rows together as I went along. Thank goodness.

My tarot bag:

Now I know it basically looks like a big, nobbly lump of yarn, but really I'm rather proud of it. I totally made the pattern up myself, which, yeah, is obvious but it worked.

Basically I just cast on 26 stiches and then knitted two rows then did knit one purl one until it looked big enough, and then decreased, doing knit 1, knit two together, and then knitted one row, and then did ti a couple of more times, then I cut the yarn, leaving a large tail which I threaded through the remaining stiches on the needle and pulled it together, then I just stiched up the side and woo-hoo, a bag.

Then I just threaded some more yarn around the top to make it a drawstring.

In other news, I had this weird dream last night where I was coming up with a story idea. It was, of course, brilliant in my dream, and I wrote it down as soon as I woke up, but I'd like some opinions if it sounds at all interesting.

Girl’s parents were spies? She had an exciting life until they disappeared when she was 11. Now she lives with her Aunt and Uncle. They move to a new town where there is this mysterious castle or something. Haunted? She meets someone, they investigate, she discovers something mystical, maybe? That leads to her parents’ return.

That's basically it from my dream. I think an amusement park was involved as well.

Charlie still has a cough, and this morning he said he didn't want to go to school, but I said he had to. Then I felt guity and I said, 'Do you really not feel well, or do you just want to stay home from school?'

'I just want to stay home from school.' he said.

At least he's honest.

The time change days are always so surreal, aren't they? My mom always calls them 'really is days'.

Oh, guess what I did? I knitted a bag for my Tarot cards, and I made up the pattern all myself. It looks it, too, but it worked, and it holds the cards, and I'm rather proud of myself.

In other knitting knews (hee) my friend's mother gave me tons of skeins of yarn, all the colours of the rainbow, so I can continue on with the 13 squared blanket. I've completed 4 rows, so I'm, what? A quarter of the way there?

Poor Charlie continues to cough. I am going to have to take him to the doctor's, which opens a whole other set of problems, but whatever.

I'm eagerly awaiting my opportunity to see the next episode of Torchwood. I'm so pathetically addicted.

'Night.

I may have mentioned in the past how I'd made these knitted coasters because it is a quick and easy pattern and looks cool. I'd made 13 of them, and Charlie wanted me to stop there, since 13 is his favorite number, but recently I started up again with the thought that it would be really cool to make a bunch of these and knit them all together into a patchwork blanket style of thing, so I told Charlie that was what I was going to do, and that I would make it in rows of 13.

So, he thought about it, and requested I make it 169 squares, as that is the square root of 13. ([livejournal.com profile] eigenkumquat might get a kick out of that, since it's all maths and stuff)

So, I am. I am up to 20 squares. Not sure how long it is going to take me to knit 169 of them.

Oh, and by the way, [livejournal.com profile] shinra_inc has to be one of the nicest people in the world.

A little while ago I made bed socks that turned out to be so big they only fit my husband. Charlie asked for a pair for himself and, after many unsuccessful attempts to decrease the pattern, I found a pattern for knitted slippers that had children's sizes, and I made them.

They are actually a bit small for Charlie, but he is really happy with them and is wearing them proudly.

I'm rather proud myself, I have mastered the Yarn Over, and made lovely little eyelet thingies and didn't make too many errors. So yay.

I need a knitting icon.

Firstly - thanks for all the hugs and messages of support on my last, whiny rant. You guys rock.

Secondly, I knitted my first hat! *Trumpet music* I made it to match the scarf I made for Charlie, which was my first project. So, here it is. (forgive the dopy look on poor Charlie's face. Didn't catch him at his best.

Gilmore Girls general rambling )

I called the job, and they're still working on it. They've narrowed it down, and I'm still in the running, but she won't have an answer until maybe tomorrow or Friday. Because I know you all couldn't sleep last night for wondering.

And, in happy news, I finished the blanket God told me to make I was knitting!

Baby Blanket! )

close up view )

Today is the earliest possible day that [livejournal.com profile] zambonigirl's Brozo would get the package I sent him. I hope he gets it soon. (Actually, I was rather hoping they'd all get sent home before it had a chance to get to Iraq, but that's not going to happen.)

More later, because, well, I don't feel like being at work, to be honest.

Joan of Arcadia cut so I don't spoil anything )

In other news I just had to spend $200 on the vet because my kitty Butch is sick. Was dehydrated, and there may be something wrong with his kidneys. They did blood work, and I have to give him antibiotics. Poor kitty. I knew something was wrong when he wasn't miawing at me all morning for his breakfast.

Good night!

It was a bit chilly this morning, so Charlie grabbed the scarf I made for him, and I decided it was a good time to take a photo to show off my dubious knitting skills. You can't see it terribly well, but you get the general idea. And remember, it's the first thing I did. Charlie didn't want the tassles on it, in case you're wondering. my mad knitting skillz )
