Heavy Sigh

Well, it is day two of my unemployment, and I am starting in on the 'feeling very depressed' stage of this particular saga. I spent most of yesterday sending out resumes online, with Monster.com and Careerbuilder.com and, while logically I know that they get hundreds of resumes a day and it will take awhile, I am feeling very discouraged that no one has responded at all. Then I look at the jobs I'm 'qualified for' and I don't want to do them, and the jobs I want to do I'm not qualified for. I'm worried sick about money, and I'm feeling very low.

Thus ends the self-pitying part of this entry.

It snowed a bit yesterday, enough to make everything look pretty and give the world that lovely Dickensian pre-Christmas feeling and to make Charlie happy very happy:

I've created a journal where I am going to put up my mystery story, should anyone want to read it. It is called [livejournal.com profile] my_mysterystory (original, no?). I've only got the first two chapters up so far, but I hope to get the rest of it up soon.

I think I may take a break from the computer today and just clean the house and pretend I can afford to be a housewife.

What sort of work are you hoping to do? What were your primary responsibilities at your last job? I'm pretty experienced with the online job search options, and I'd be happy to help you search if you are interested.
If you'd rather I not, that's okay, too. ::hugs:: Best of luck!

*hugs* I, too, can keep an eye out if you like - writing as in journalism, grant writing, fiction....? I get a couple of publishing mags, and for some reason NJ is apparently a hotbed of certain types of publishing.

your kid looks very happy.
And well, it has only been two days for now. Don't lose hope so quickly says she who will have to search for months in a few days and who is scared

As for your writing journal, I think that a Friends Only community would have been a better option (easier to update, to answer everyone, plus, you don't have to log in / log out etc. A flister of mine has that sort of community for her writing.) I'm looking forward the whole book.

Job hunting should be a paying job.

I recommend you check out Idealist.org (http://www.idealist.org) -- it is a non-profit job database, but there are a wide range of non-profits, and I feel like I always see writing/content related jobs there. And some of them pay rather well! I'd also recommend you check out your local craigslist (I know you said you didn't want a job in Philly (http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/) but I don't know where exactly you are!) -- I found this dream job and Augustine via Craigslist!! :)

Good luck !

Now don't make yourself too depressed, getting answers to those resumes will take more than a day! Is there any further news from the guy with the company with the job where you would work from home?

Joined your mysterystory journal, now just awaiting the updates!

I hope you know I'm rooting for you, and if there's anything I can do, just let me know.

And the snowfall looks beautiful.

I fell behind on LJ over the weekend, so I missed the bad news earlier. So sorry to hear about your job. I hope the job search doesn't take too long, but even more than that, I hope that you find something you love. Sending good thoughts out to you!

Top tip: Sit down now and work out a new budget - write down what is coming in, and what normally goes out and look realistically at what you can save.

Most people do not work to a set household budget and it's a pity because generally you can always make whatever is coming in work if you plan in advance.

Then forecast your cashflow. That way you can see potential cash poor times and juggle your spending sensibly and without getting into debt difficulties.

*is envious about the snow*

General thoughts:

You can now save on childcare.

You can cook cheaper because you have more time to spend on slower dishes with cheaper cuts of meat for example.

You save on gas and car use. YOu could (if it is close enough) now walk Charlie to school instead of driving (depending on the distances involved).

Those are a few "off the top of my head" thoughts - though they might not be appropriate for you.

Keep your chin up. I have no job search advice for you but wanted to say that Charlie looks great in the hat and scarf you made him.

That is such a gorgeous photo of Charlie in snow.
As for your job search depression: I can't help you much more with the search beside keeping my fingers crossed, but I'm confident you shouldn't start worrying just yet.

My girlfriend has access to and is contributing more useful information than I could ever help to provide, but I'm thinking/hoping (and wishing, and praying, and planning, and... oh, shit) for you anyway. ::hugs::
