In Neil Gaiman's American Gods, the god Odin tells Shadow that there are places in America that are holy places, or mystical places, and people build weird roadside attractions on them, without quite knowing why. I think I was at one of those places yesterday. It's called Storybook Land, and it is in Egg Harbor Township, NJ. http://www.storybookland.com/index.html
It's an amusement park for smaller children, and was built in 1955. Part of the park's attraction are these old animatronic type displays that 'act' out some of the better known fairy tales. The mannequins are old, and look like they could easily come to life if they were in some B movie horror story. It's a very weird, wonderful place, and I recommend it to anyone who has children under 10 years old, should you find yourself in New Jersey.
