My sister and her boyfriend were in British Columbia this past weekend because BF was competing in the Triathlon. They are both very athletic. BF asked my sister to meet him at the finish line. When she got there, he got down on one knee, pulled a ring box out of his water-bottle holder and asked her to marry him in full view of all the spectators, participants and TV cameras. They were even on the big screen thingy that was set up. She said yes. I keep hoping to see something about it on the internet, but so far no luck.

So congratulations to my 'little' sister! I am very happy for her. She seems to have found someone who is well matched for her. They both share similar interests, and he has a great sense of humor, which is always important.

In other news...I've joined this community called [profile] electiondebate. It's fun because you get people from both sides of the political fence. Not sure how good of a debater I actually am, I tend to react emotionally rather than logically, but it is an interesting read nonetheless.

I've been officially rejected by the bookyoucrew, if anyone is keeping score. Apparently my idea of being well read and theirs is totally different. I like my view better.

And I'd recommend renting Educating Rita to everyone who participated in the discussion about books, if you haven't already seen it. Lovely movie. Stars Michael Caine and Julie (Mrs. Weasley) Walters. Came out about 20 years ago. One of my favorites.

My son is getting very excited about his upcoming birthday. He seems more interested this year than he ever has before. He asked for a Spiderman cake, too. That for some reason made me all sentimental because it is such a 'boy' thing to do. He's growing up! He is going to be 7 years old. He's asked for some funny things for his birthday, including a floor pillow we saw at Target. Last night he asked for a new Police CD. Seriously. (I wish I could meet Sting just to tell him that my son is a fan of his early work!) I did get him a CD walkman (amazingly inexpensive any more. This one cost $12.95) and the soundtrack for Shrek 2.

I am, however, terribly behind on actually getting the party organized. Sigh.
