Don't necessarily agree with the result, but it's ego-stroking, nonetheless!
Vaguely amusing political thing was pointed out to me today by this guy I work with, with whom I had a sort of friendly 'Bush vs Kerry' banter thing. Has everyone seen the USA today map that shows the voting thingy by county?
Naturally I said 'so the blue bits are where all the smart people live.'
This map has a much more nuanced POV.
Sometimes I feel like the Bush camp is working over time to point out how most of America really, really wanted him this time.
My contact lense is killing me, probably because today is the one day I didn't bring my glasses in 'just in case'. And I had my work physical and drug test done, finally. Everyone has to take a physical, mostly because the majority of people who are here will likely wind up exposed to some sort of unhealthy environment at some point in time, being engineers and all. They need to know what your state of health is at the start, so they can see if you get sick because of the exposure, or whatever. I'm not likely to be exposed any time soon, but had to take the test. No big.
Brings me to my question, though. What is everyone's opinion of drug testing prior to employment? Invasion of our rights or just logical? my opinion is 'whatever.' I just think 'don't do them, and it won't bloody matter, now will it?'
My husband's friend recently failed a drug test so he got fired from the job he was being hired for. And he was surprised. He knew he had to take the test. It wasn't a random screen. Why didn't he just NOT smoke pot for a few days? Apparently he believed some urban type legend that drinking some kind of tea would help you 'pass' the test. Which, naturally, it didn't.
Hey, dude. Here's a hint. Don't do the drug, and you'll pass the test.
What a dork.
