Charlie has recently discovered the unadulterated fun that is Wheel of Fortune, a game show that has been on television since I was his age. I always get a big kick of watching him enjoy things, and this is no exception. He cheers on the contestants, groaning when they get 'bankrupt' (or 'bankgrout' as he calls it) and shouts 'big money!' when the wheel spins, which just cracks me up. So, I went to the Wheel of Fortune's web site to see if they had online game one can play, which of course they do.

It is terribly addicting. I had to tear myself away from it. Not good on a Friday - it's hard enough concentrating on work on a Friday.

slightly more serious topic )

Right. Back to work.

Oh - question to my British friends - my local DJ this morning told a story he said was in the Mirror about Val Kilmer at a resturant called Ivy. Apparently he was in the men's and the guy next to him said 'you can be my wing man any time' which I believe was from Top Gun, and Val Kilmer, instead of fixing him with a steely glare, said the next line back to him. Then, at the guy's request, Val Kilmer went up to the guy when he was back at the bar with his mates and said 'hey, Dave! Good to see you!' or similar. I thought that was just the coolest thing to do, and I was wondering if it was really reported, and if so, what the chances are of it being actually true.

I'm still not 100% convinced this really happened, as I'm not sure how reliable 'What's New on Compuserve' is, since this section seems to be a bit gossipy, but here's the story that the DJ reported:

Val Kilmer's Strange Restroom Encounter
So the story goes like this: Actor Val Kilmer, who starred with Tom Cruise in "Top Gun" oh so many years ago back in the '80s, walked into the restroom at The Ivy Restaurant in London. (Kilmer was there enjoying dinner with Quentin Tarantino and Kevin Spacey.) He's minding his own business at the urinal when the guy next to him broke every man's sacred rule about public restrooms: He talked to Kilmer.

London's Daily Mirror and Sky News report that the guy next door recognized Kilmer and said to him: "You can be my wing man anytime," one of the more famous quotes from "Top Gun." Guess what Kilmer did? A spy in the restroom told the Mirror, "He was expecting Val to get arsey. But Val said: 'No man, you can be mine.'" How sweet.

Kilmer wasn't done with playing the nice guy. His restroom buddy asked him for a favor. The potty spy dished to the Mirror, "They had a good laugh, and then the guy asked Val if he could greet him at the bar like he's an old friend, to wind his pal up. Val agreed. Minutes later, Val came to the bar and said: 'Dave, so good to see you. How you doing?' The guy's pal was stunned."

One of the reasons I'm not totally convinced is evidenced in the comment [livejournal.com profile] lizzyrose89 made - the 'Fuck you Val, I'm busy" is a punch line from one of those urban legend things I've seen on Snopes.

If it is true, it is totally classy of Val. Who was great in Real Genius. And Top Secret. And Willow.
