I want to ride my bicycle
Apr. 17th, 2005 09:04 pmMy first two-wheeler was this yellow and green thing. I think it was a hand-me-down. One day, when I was around 6 or 7, I was riding this bike in the alley behind my grandparent's house in Ocean City, and it split in half. Just split clean in half. One second I'm riding my two-wheeler, the next minute the bottom half of the bike is on the ground behind me, I'm balanced on the front half for a few moments until gravity remembers its role in life, and I fall to the ground.
My grandfather immediately took me to the local Schwinn shop and bought me a new one. He was nice that way. He was nice lots of ways, but I digress. I don't remember what the bike was like, really, but I'm sure it was purple. That was my favorite color.
My first ten-speed was a purple thing that I bought with my own, saved up money. It cost $100, if I remember correctly. That was also purple. I had that bike for ages. It eventually got stolen outside of my apartment that I was sharing with my husband in the early 90's.
I'm bringing this up because this morning we went to a local flea-market, and I bought myself a cheap bike, so I could go on bike rides with Charlie. We rode to the park, he played on the playground for a while, then we came home. It was fun. His best friend's moms also bike, and we're planning on biking together this summer. So, yay biking.
