(no subject)
Jun. 22nd, 2005 09:54 amHello. Got some sleep, am feeling more cheerful today, due in large part to
zambonigirl and I having a real life telephone chat last night. She is made of awesome.
Have you all seen the top 100 movie quotes list that came out? I found it amusing how many of them I recognized as being used by Terry Pratchett at one time or another. The one - "It was beauty killed the beast" I didn't know came from King Kong, and having the Dean say it in "Moving Pictures" makes so much more sense to me now.
I read a thing where Bob Geldof has asked the preformers at Live 8 to not do any Bush-bashing during the event. He says because he wants people to stick to the subject at hand, i.e. aid for Africa*, and while I agree that it would be better to stick to the subject, I find it disturbing that he said that. I mean, not that long ago Rock 'N Roll was all about anti-establishmentism, and now Bob Geldof of all people is warning the preformers not to express their opinions about Bush. It is scary.
Question for anyone who's read The Fellowship of the Ring - Tom Bombidil - is he the guy who did the cool river horse thing that was done by Arwyn in the movie? I know someone said one character from the book was kept out of the movie, and I'm guessing it's him, but I haven't seen the movie all the way through, so I'm curious. I'm enjoying the book more than I thought I would, although there is far too much poetry, I think. Get to the point, says I. And also Merry and Pippin are a lot less stupid in the book. So far.
*Although I think there might be room for some criticism of the president while still staying on topic
