Yesterday's celebration was lovely. Kris actually remembered a card, and he brought some flowers - off-ramp* looking flowers, but flowers nonetheless. We had dinner at Ludwig's Garten, and it was quite good. Not as fancy as I feared and, since it was a Monday, pretty empty. The server brought out the 'bar menu' because it had things on it suited for children, like chicken fingers. Kris, who lived in Germany, was having a grand time, speaking the German for the things, and ordering the beer. He wound up eating something that, translated from the German, was 'pig ankles' or something. It gets cooked in Brandy right at our table. Cool looking but still...ew. I had this lovely beef strudel thing.

Sadly, Charlie's tooth started aching agian - one of his front baby teeth has been giving him trouble - so we didn't stay for dessert.

The rest of the evening went well also. I'll leave exactly how well to your imagination.

Meanwhile, Charlie has this boy in his class, Byron**, that he's been talking insessently about since summer school started. All Charlie wants to do is play with Byron after school. I've told him he needs to get Byron's phone number so I can call his mom and set up a play date, but apparently Byron doesn't know his phone number. And Charlie know's Byron's house number, but not the street name. It's an orange house. Apparently yesterday he told everyone he is going to Byron's house today, and he told me when I picked him up that he was going to write a note to the bus driver telling her that he is going to Byron's house. Which he did: Dear Bus Driver. Tomorrow I am hopefully going to Byron's house to play after school Yes, he used the word hopefully in a sentence.

I told the driver this morning that Charlie is not going to Byron's house after school. As it was the Sitter asked me this morning if Charlie was, because he told her he was. Like I wouldn't have told her yesterday if that was the case. Dur.

So, hopefully I can arrange a play date with Byron soon. I just hope Byron is as fond of Charlie as Charlie is of him.

*There was this TV show on in the late 80's/early 90's called Empty Nest and Christy McNicol's character had a boyfriend who told her on their 6 month anniversary date that he would have brought her flowers but 'just my luck, there was no one at the off-ramp.' and that became a sort of running joke between my mother and me.

**Yes, Byron.
