Why have I seen no less than four stories about child abuse/neglect today? Is it to compound my feelings of guilt I already have for snapping at Charlie this morning?

Why do news people report these stories anyway? Is it necessary for the general public to know this? Does it change anything? Does it make the world a better place because we are reminded that there are horrible people out in the world? I don't know.

As to the stories from [livejournal.com profile] customers_suck, I guess it says something about the state of affordable day care in our country, or something. Nonetheless, if I didn't have someone to watch my child, I sure wouldn't assume some poor sales person in a store would be willing to do so.

I was going to say something about politics, but I don't think I'll articulate it correctly. I would, however, be very pleased if I could find a completely unpartisian point of view. What happened in New Orleans shouldn't be a Republican vs Democrat thing. There was fault on both sides, and both sides need to take responsibility for it. Some of the more 'right wing' things I've read seem to want to divide us up into white hats and black hats, and the world is just not that simple.

Anyway...will post something more cheerful later.

I hate not being able to fall asleep.

Anyway...Gilmore Girls was very good. So was House. I don't care that the medical stuff is probably pants, I just lurve Hugh Laurie.

It made me wonder though, though 'wish' is probably a more appropriate word, that if people in prison could be shown real compassion, somehow, they might actually reform. Not sure what good it would do anyone, but I can't help but wonder. When I was a little girl, for whatever reason my friend and I were playing this game that we were the daughters of a prison warden (and yes, I know this sounds like the beginning of porn, but it isn't. We were 8 or something, okay?) and all the prisoners just loved us because we were so sweet and wonderful. Or something, I don't remember. However, I do remember truly believing that just being kind and loving to people would help them learn to be kind and loving in return.

It would be nice if that were true.
