Okay. Get this. I just got a call from one of Charlie's teachers. Conversation went something like this:
Teacher: Hi, this is Mrs. Teacher from Charlie's school
Me: *thinking, oh, crap, what's wrong* Yes?
Teacher: I just need to let you know about something that happened this morning
Me: *thinking, oh, no, the bully that has been shaking down Charlie's friend* has turned on Charlie now* Okay, what happened?
Teacher: Well, every day they do a journal, and today the sentence was "I like to pretend I am a...and then they fill in the blank. Charlie wrote, "I like to pretend I am a human torch. Flame on". We talked to him about it, and found out it is from the movie Fantastic Four, and we just want to make sure he knows it is pretend.
Me: Wait, what was the sentence again?
Teacher: I like to pretend that I am...
Me: So, he knows that it is pretend, he was saying he likes to pretend to be The Human Torch** He knows it isn't real. We've talked about it. (and hello, he's autistic, not stupid)
Teacher: Well, it has to do with fire, so we were a little concerned, and we wanted to let you know we had to talk to him about it.
Me: *rolling my eyes so far back I can see my brain* Okay then. Thank you.
Seriously. WTF? If the sentence was 'I like to' and Charlie wrote 'start fires' I'd be concerned. Liking a cartoon super-hero? Not so much.
*Really happened. This kid in their class was threatening to beat up Devon unless Devon gave him money. He finally got caught at it.
**Which, by the way, he dressed as for Halloween, so why they didn't know who the Human Torch was, I don't know.
