Job interviewing, the saga continues
Aug. 9th, 2007 03:12 pmI got a call from this company in Lakehurst NJ asking me to come in for an interview for the position of 'technical writer'. I had no recollection of applying for said job, especially as it is in Lakehurst, a good hour from home, but, as any experience is good, I agreed to the interview.
Turns out they'd found me on this job net thing, which is kind of cool.
So, the pros of the job are as follows:
It'w writing manuals and proposals mostly, which is something I could totally do. It's taking training manuals for equipment and re-writing it so the military can understand it - i.e. repeating oneself and using small words. Seriously. 6th grade level, that's what he said.
They pay 100% of the benefits for the employee and the employees family.
They have an interesting schedule - I can work 9 hour days and then get every other Friday off. And I can set my hours; for example, I could go in at 6am and leave at 4. Sort of cool. Or, if I don't want to, I can just do the 8 hour days and not take Fridays off.
The pay should be pretty good.
Seems like a nice company to work for
I reall think I'd enjoy the work
Cons:
It's in Lakehurst - it's straight down route 70, so it isn't hard, but it's 45 miles away from my house and took me just over an hour to get there, sans traffic. That's a lot of driving. Do-able, but long.
The benefits thing is what really pushes it over the edge for me. After angsting about it for so long, that is just a major bonus.
I would consider possibly moving closer - I'd still be close to friends, and then the commute wouldn't suck so much, but I would have to uproot Charlie. On the other hand, maybe a totally fresh start somewhere new is what I need.
Of course, I'm way ahead of myself here. They have more people they have to interview, he told me, so I may not even get offered the job.
What do you think? Should you be wishing me luck? I sort of think so. It seemed right, somehow. Again - chickens, counting, don't do it. I'll shut up now
