Apr. 22nd, 2010 10:01 pmCharlie's been listening to pop songs via Kid's Bop, wherein kids sing the Pop Songs of Today. Some of the songs have questionable lyrics, so they change them so as not to offend. Lada Gaga's Paparazzi, for example is sung using 'all the rest' instead of cigarettes' and so on.
There is this one (horribly annoying) song that Charlie particularly likes, called Replay. In it there is a lyric that goes 'You was at the mall' which for me is like nails on a chalkboard. Why he couldn't just say it properly I will never understand. There's a few songs like that, but that one I railed against rather vehemently, because, lyrically, there's no reason the singer couldn't say 'were'. It still scans.
Anyway...because of my rant, when Charlie sings the song, he corrects the grammar.
Today he asked me why Kid's Bop cleaned up the language in the songs, but not the grammar.
I had no good answer.
