Okay, not really. It's an amusing story though, and the moral is I have the best friends in the whole wide world ever.

I've been e-chatting with this guy - he's English, seems reasonably smart, and we hit it off enough that I thought an in-person meeting would be fun. We'd decided to meet at this new place near me called The British Chip Shop. (Do I love this place already? Yes. Yes I do.)

So, Saturday morning I send him a quick email around 10 saying I will see him soon, then I get off the computer and go off to do things before we meet for brunch.

Unbeknownst to me, he'd emailed me shortly after that, saying he couldn't make it after all - there was a power cut in his neighbourhood or something, and he wasn't going to be ready on time - and we had limited time because my ex, with his uncanny ability to have plans whenever I have plans, was dropping Charlie off around 3.

So, meanwhile I went to the restaurant to wait.

And waited.

And started getting paranoid and texting my friends.

And waited.

And called him twice. (but he didn't answer his phone. (he said later it was on vibrate and he didn't hear it which I know sounds like a likely story, but at this point I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt).

So I wait some more, continuing to text my 4 BFF's with updates. Meanwhile the Adorable Waiter Who Looks a Bit Like David Tennant Except He is Only 22 was really sweet - I'd told him I was waiting on an internet date, and he would come over and check up on me every few minutes.

Finally, I have the belated but brilliant idea to ask my friend to check my email since I can no longer do so from my phone, and she found his email saying he was cancelling. She immediately offered to come have lunch with me at the Chip Shop, as I was disappointed and starving. I texted my other friends and asked if they wanted to come to, and they, all of them, dropped what they were doing and came to eat with me.

Adorable Waiter was quite impressed that I have such amazing friends and rightly so. I do have amazing friends. They saved me from feeling extraordinarily pathetic.

'Course, if we do ever meet and we do hit it off, Date Guy has some work to do to redeem himself in the eyes of my BFF's. But perhaps it will be a fun story to tell at our wedding. :)
