Wow, my mom had that book too. She was a great cook though, but I think she got a lot of her shortcut ideas from that book, since she was working pretty much most of the time, and my father was no help, of course. So it was great to have something to fall back on, when she didn't have time to do the big fancy food production. Her favorite thing to do was what she called "Accidents", which usually consisted of whatever pasta she had hanging around, stewed tomatoes, ground beef, and lots of spices. It always tasted good and she'd make a big pot of it and we'd have it for days!
