Terry answered my actual question on the B&N thingy! With a footnote! I got a Terry Pratchett footnote in my answer! I <3 him so very much.

I asked him 'May I ask if you are an affectionado of he 30's and 40's romance/comedies? Just because two of your more recent couples - William DeWorde and Saccirissa Chrisplock and Moist and Adora both seem to be modeled after those types of films.'

Not a fan as such, but The Truth was a newspaper novel and there is a powerfful narrativium[1] in such plots. You know, the whole 'you look beautiful without my glasses' thing.' You got flirting and glamour and wit-- in fact, you got a script, and as an author that's what I like.

Adora Belle came from the same general period, but with tweaks. The smoking, the cynicism, the 'go ahead, impress me' attitude, the put-downs, the hardness, sure, that's all a bit 'Golden Age of Hollywood' but her concern for golems as people that don't betray you or let you down is an evoluion of the type.

[1] For those unaware of the word, Narrativium is a DW term for the power of story: the power thar makes sure thst the third son of the king succeeds an that James Bond defuses the bomb in time.

How freaking cool is that. Shall treasure it forever.

Gonna cross-post this to [livejournal.com profile] discworld I'm that proud.
