CNN.com has a little article about the Oklahoma City bombing anniversary, and has quotes both from Dick Chaney and Former Prez. Bill Clinton.
Chaney: Goodness overcame evil that day, All humanity can see you experienced bottomless cruelty and responded with heroism," he told the crowd. "Your strength was challenged and you held firm. Your faith was tested and it has not wavered.
Clinton: by the grace of God, time takes its toll not only on youth and beauty, but also on tragedy. The tomorrows come almost against our will. And they bring healing and hope, new responsibilities and new possibilities.
I like Bill's quote much better. I like the idea of time softening tragedies. I'm not comfortable with the 'faith tested' analogy. I don't believe the bombing was a divine test any more than 9/11 was a divine retrubition. They were both cruel acts of humans against other humans.
The cynical part of my brain can't help but wonder if Chaney was trying vainly to think of a way to tie this in with the war in Iraq. Which would be hard, since the Oklahoma City bombing was done by Americans.
Anyway...I ridiculously proud of my new icon. Made it my own self.
It is really, really warm outside today. It's like summertime. Wanna play outside!
