They wrote, "The machine is broke". That really annoys me. I crossed off 'broke' and wrote 'broken'. That was snotty of me, wasn't it?
No. That was reasonable.
I probably would have crossed off "broke," would have written "broken," and then added "So is this person's vocabulary." (That, I think, is snotty.)
