Holiday Work Party

My company holds its party in the afternoon at a restaurant. They do that because they know most people don't like doing work things after they get home for the day. I think this is pretty swell, and besides we get out early (party starts at 3).
Because this is a late lunch/early dinner sort of thing, people in the office bring in food today so we don't die of hunger before the big meal.
slammerkinbabe used to work with a woman who would moan loudly every time people brought in food, worrying about calories and such. I often have to stop myself from doing the same thing. Still, it's amazing how often food turns up in the kitchen.
This makes me feel doubly good about my mystery story, since that's the beginning premise.
Anyway...
I've been meaning to bring this up, and never got around to it. I was suprised that more people on my flist didn't talk about that whole 'My Space/Suicide' thing when it was in the news.
Personally I think it was another example of the media jumping on something before being in possession of all the facts because they were so eager to do another "My Space/Blogging/The Interweb is evil" story. I remember the first story I heard they said something about how the girl was 'on top of the world' or something, making it seem like she had no issues other than the My Space hoax. Naturally we find out later she suffered depression.
I think it is very sad that this poor girl would take words to heart like she did, but I don't think it was the fault of My Space. I think the girls responsible should feel remorse, but I'm not sure they could be held legally accountable. I mean, if that were the case, I could go sue every kid who was ever mean to me in my childhood, right?
The media was also gung-ho to say it was a grown-up doing the writing, but I think that wasn't 100% the case. However, I do think that woman should NOT have gotten involved. Lady, you want to give advice to your kid? Tell her to communicate directly with the person she's having issues with, mkay?
I'd like to hear your opinions on this matter, if you feel like sharing them.
