charliesmum: (dreams are made of)
Went to the doctor's this morning because I've been very dizzy lately. And not dizzy like Gracie Allen, dizzy like I feel like I'm going to fall down.

It's most likely an inner ear thing, so he gave me Allegra and I have to have blood tests tomorrow, just to make sure.

I said to him, "So I guess you don't have to call in Dr. House, then." He laughed. He isn't a big fan of the show, not because of the medicine, which he said isn't actually that bad, but because House is so mean. Apparently that really bugs my kindly doctor.

Had a Shakespeare thing tonight. I've been called back to read Olivia, and just Olivia which can mean one of two things. One, he is so sure he wants me to be Olivia, that he's just seeing who I work best with or two, I have a very limited range, and he's just throwing me a bone since I'm on the board.

I'm hoping it's the first one.

I also hope I remember I can't eat anything tomorrow.

So, auditions actually went well last night. It was the first thing we've had that really felt like a success. Well, okay the Mayfair wasn't bad, but it wasn't exactly what we'd hoped for, either.

Anyway, we got over 20 people who auditioned, and there were a couple of people who wanted to audition but couldn't that night. We even got a few men. Which is a good thing. Not as many as Shakespeare warrents, but some.

We have 2 older men, in their 50s or so, then 3 men that are probably late 20s to 40s, and then 2 teenaged boys.

We have 14 women who's ages range from late 40s to around 16 or so.

Everyone seems moderately talented.

Which brings me to my poll. I've not done a poll in awhile, so I thought, why not. We're going to do a comedy, and our next step is trying to figure out which play will work the best. Since Shakespeare is always heavy on the male roles, it does limit us somewhat. John the director is leaning toward Twelfth Night, which I'd be fine with if there were any guarentee I could 'reprise' my role as Olivia. Nonetheless, I'd like your opinion. So here it is:

We held our first auditions for the Collingswood Shakespeare Company, Inc. today. That was fun.

We should have more people coming out next week. Anyone on my flist who lives in the area and is interested at all should show up. (I'm looking at you [livejournal.com profile] elfmanfan)

Charlie wanted to audition, so he did:

I must say he did a pretty good job, too. John had this little piece from Winnie the Pooh, and Charlie read it very well, with inflection and everything. He does actually have a bit of natural talent.

So hopefully we will eventually have enough people to put on a decent show. Fingers crossed, please.

And thanks for the hugs earlier. I needed that.

Photos from my 'debut' at the Collingswood May Fair. Bloody hot it was, and it was hard for people to hear us since we didn't have mics or anything, but it was fun.

I never like how I look in photos. Whether it is due to modesty or vanity, you decide.

Tonight I had a meeting of the Collingswood Shakespeare Company, Inc. We were talking about Mayfair and then Dina and I were going to do a dress rehearsal for everyone. Charlie had a baseball game today, and I had to leave it early to get to my meeting.

He got a hit.

He got his first hit in a game and I missed it!

My husband said that his team just went crazy congratulating him and all the parents leapt up and cheered for him. He is so very proud of himself now. "I got my first hit and run." he told me when I came home.

Yay for Charlie!

And the dress rehearsal was good, and I got a laugh where I wanted to get a laugh, so yay.

Still tired. Whatever. In a sad mood. Blurgh.

Here's a photo of the cake from last night:

I really have nothing to say, I am just feeling lonely.

She just stopped by my house with a donation for the Shakespeare auction tonight. An at-home massage, and the package has some lovely soap and one of those eye-mask thingies. She rocks.

We have all sorts of really nice things to be auctioned tonight. I really, really, hope people come.

I even had dreams about it last night. Hadn't realized it was preying on my mind so much.

Seriously, though. Awesome items. And [livejournal.com profile] justleakynow is the best ever.

Saturday we were supposed to go to the Phillies game, and it was rained out. Sunday we went to the zoo, and it was damp and gloomy the entire time we were there, and cleared up only after we'd gotten home.

Today is the "Bard Birthday Bash"* and I was hoping it could be on the patio of the Grooveground and it's bloody raining. And also Charlie is supposed to have his baseball photo taken today.

The weather gods hate me.

*And anyone who lives in or near my town please, please, please come! This is my baby and I'm terrified no one will show. Please? It is 7pm at the Grooveground on Haddon Avenue. We have crafts for kids and lots of seriously cool things to bid on. Please? Thank you. More pleading will be coming throughout the day.

The Collingswood Shakesepare Company has an official website. It's a work in progress, so some of the things are up yet, but if you click on the link that says "Shakespeare", I wrote both those entries. So go me. ;)

I saw this in a store today. It was all framed nicely and they were charging almost $300.00 for it! I did find the company's website and it is a bit cheaper there, even cheaper than Amazon.

Anyway, it is totally cool. The entire text of the A Midsummer Night's Dream on a pretty poster. Yes, I have no idea where I would put it, but it is SOOOOOOO cool. They have other plays too, which is nifty.

Oh, and if anyone cares I've lost about 4 pounds recently, so yay me.

Pithy quote

I was trying to find a Shakespeare quote about money, but didn't.

Anyway...Long story short, The Collingswood Shakespeare Company really needs money, and our president wants everyone on the board to cough up $300.00 each. I don't have $300 that I don't already owe other people, but she wants us to hit up friends and family for it if we can't donate ourselves.

I'm just not comfortable doing that. How can I ask people to give me money for something that doesn't affect them at all?

She says 'no excuses' on this, but I really don't know what to do. I'm doing my best to set up fundraisers, but I can't just beg money. So, any suggestions on how I can tactfully ask for donations? Didn't think so.

Meanwhile, the stupid township is giving us a hard time, because for some reason they think Collingswood begins and ends in the two blocks on Haddon Avenue where the resturants are. They want us to hold the play on the street. Stupid.

It's the whole 'Arugh, Shakespeare = High School English Classes' mentality that we're trying really hard to change. They don't ask the stupid town musical to do it on the bloody street, so why are we different?

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] butter_cup posted an atrocious quote by one of the Troglodytes in South Dakota. Go check it out if you feel like your
blood pressure isn't high enough.
