Fan fiction is the reason I discovered Live Journal in the first place.
Way back in 2004, bored at work, I was looking up Harry Potter stories, or something, somehow stumbled onto the 'Mary Sue' concept, and one of the articles linked to
deleterius, a community where bad Harry Potter and LOTR fan fiction was soundly and amusingly mocked.
I clicked, I liked, and I lurked for ages before deciding to take the plunge and joined up.
I began commenting in
deleterius, and even made several posts of my own. Most are, alas, lost to the mists of time, but I saved this one in memories because the comments regarding my 'Captain Obvious and his sidekick Redundancy Boy' remark were particularly amusing and, additionaly, I was particularly proud of my 'On Her Majesty's Secret Bridgework' joke.
So I am very fond of fan fiction. I'm generally astounded by the depth of talent there is in the world, and even when Rule 34 breaks my brain on occasion, I think fan fiction, good and bad, has a place in this crazy ol' world.
