The Opening Night That Almost Wasn't:

Our "Paris" said he couldn't make opening night because he was still sick. He had a fever most of the week. He said it had broken, but then it came back (or something) and didn't want to push it. (I understand, but he is also the biggest baby when it comes to that sort of thing, so the general consensus is he should've sucked it up and shown up.)

So...cue panic. What are we going to do? Ideas flung back and forth. Just cancel the show? Treat it like 'invited dress' and not charge people? Charge people half? What?

I sent out a call on FB asking any of my male actor friends if they wanted to come read the part. Didn't think anyone would. My friend Scott did.

He came, he got the lines, we explained it to the (small) audience. They didn't care. We did the show. He saved the day. Everyone is happy.

Tonight is Trojan Women. Hopefully no disasters befall anyone.

Your friend is a trooper!

I went to an opening night where one of the major roles was being played by the understudy who didn't know the lines yet, but if he hadn't been holding the script you wouldn't have known it.
