charliesmumJust spent my lunch hour catching up on posts because for some reason today there isn't a time limit set. Woot.
Day 10 - Discuss your first love and first kiss.
Huh. Well, firstly, how does one define 'first love'. First 'true' love? First person I had a crush on? First person who liked me back?
I'm gonna go with first boyfriend. Seems the most logical.
His name was Ryan. We were in 7th grade together, and I think we shared a couple of classes. He asked me to some dance or other. I was thrilled. We 'went out' for most of the year, as I recall. On Valentine's Day he gave me this truly hidious costume jewelry necklace that I wore proudly and still have somewhere.
Our first kiss - and it never really got past the 'peck on the lips' stage, was one day coming home from a date. Probably roller-skating, as it was 1979/80. My parents were on our front porch with our neighbours, as was their wont. Ryan walked me to my porch, but then, seeing the grown ups, we trotted over to the garage, out of their line of site, where he kissed me briefly on the lips then high-tailed it back to his mom's car.
Then I had to walk into the house.
Past what seemed like a multitude of leering grown-ups who knew exactly what just happened. The words 'that is so cute' were, I am sure, forming on their lips as I rushed by, blushing, feeling like that porch was four-million miles long.
We found each other on FB a couple of years ago. Both divorced. If this were a perfect narrative, he'd have grown into the perfect man for me, and vice-versa, but no, he wasn't, so we'd read each other's statuses and left it at that.
He did re-marry his first wife, apparently and then, a few months ago, passed away due to cancer.
I hadn't seen him since high school, and then we were in such very different crowds, and it was such a big school, that I probably only saw him once or twice the entire time, but I still wept a bit when I read that on Facebook, because, yeah, he was my first love, and my first kiss, and my first partner on that scary, confusing path that is a romantic relationship.
I'll always cherish that.
