Now, as you may know, I'm kind of in a band, with the theatre group. Mostly I just sing back up and attempt to play tambourine at the same time, so I'm not like a big member, but I enjoy the conceit of saying I'm 'in a band'.

Last night Dave (The Boyfriend) and I went to see his boss's band play - they're quite good, by the way - and during their first break the boss came over to say hi. I asked him what other songs he was doing, and he showed me the playlist, and one of the songs on the list was Tubthumping. My band had done that song during The Tempest, so I said, jokingly, 'oh, I could do the girl bits in that song!' and, well, he took me up on it. Wouldn't take no for an answer, even.

So, despite the fact I was beset with doubts; as I said I like to say 'I'm in a band' but I still mostly feel like I'm play-acting when we play, and suddenly here I am getting up in front of a fairly crowded bar to sing along with a completely new group of people.

But...I did it! And I was, I am told, fine.

So, yay me. It was a fun experience. Totally different from karaoke. Same amount of liquid courage, maybe, but different feeling.

You're more than "kind of" in the band... last time I checked, you sang lead vocals at least twice!
