I'm going to be in England in less than a month. One month from right this minute I will be there, in London. Living the dream.

Am I excited? Oh, yes. Yes I am.

Aside from the fact I'm Meeting A Goal* I'm going to be there with Dave The Boyfriend, and he's really wonderful. We're going to have a good time. Having the whole Anglophile thing in common its...well...it's really great. It makes us 'us'. Also he's been there many times, so he knows how to get places and do things without looking too touristy.

We're going to go to the British Museum, and we're doing a horribly touristy 'dinner cruise' on Saturday night, but other than that, we don't have fixed plans. I'm sort of hoping to go to Baker Street - there's a shop there, apparently and I'm hoping to buy tacky Sherlock souvenirs for some friends.

I want to try to get to the Doctor Who experience if we have time.

Have I mentioned I'm excited?

*Elsewhere on this blog, I mentioned that I wanted to get to England by the time I was forty. I'm just 4 years late. Not terribly bad.

Oh, have fun! And go to the Tower of London, definitely! The first time I was there, we lucked into a private tour of the chapel of St Peter ad vincula with the rector after we went to a church service there (and he knew the rector of our church, amazingly enough), so I got to take a look around the altar at the grave markers, like Anne Boleyn, and he took us down in the side to see Thomas More's tomb, which is actually empty because he's in the communal graves. The second time I was in London, they weren't allowing people to go down and see Thomas More, but that was 2004, so I dunno.

I was there in '87 for a week and was in HEAVEN!! We did Mme Tussaud's first day and did hit Baker Steet on the way. I hit the British Museum, National Gallery, Portrait Gallery, Abbey Road, Tower of London and caught a West End Show on my birthday. I wrote everything down and wrote the notes out in pseudo-calligraphy and inserted them with the photos.

Oh, I forgot Windsor & Hampton Court!

Someday I will get *back* there. Hopefully!
Before then, I'm going to have to get to Ireland and possibly Scotland. Perhaps the Universe will send me a travel partner!

Dying of envy...I always seem to meet guys that don't particularly like to travel. At least the current edition of Boyfriend is open to being dragged around, if not an initiator.

Wishing you all the fun in the world! I do hope you get to the Doctor Who Experience. Any plans to lurk around Cardiff and see the studio?

No Cardiff this trip. It's only a weekend, so we won't have time. Possibly next July!

When I was there is 1976 (!!!) I visited The Sherlock Holmes, which is a pub and an attraction all in one. It looks a bit more posh now then it was then, but I really enjoyed looking at all the "memorabilia". And the Tower of London--which I didn't see and now regret all these years later. I did manage to see a show (Jesus Christ, Superstar) and Mme Tussaud's as well.
Color me envious!

I'm sure you'll have a great time in London, there's so much to see and do.

I've not even done half of the attractions there, probably never will get the time. The one thing I do plan to do in the near future is to take [livejournal.com profile] gipsy_dreamer to the street market in Chinatown and stock up on oriental food supplies :-)

If we can't do it in November, we can totally meet up next July - we'll be there for 10 days, so we'll have more time to travel.

If you want to be really touristy
