Does anyone even say fortnight any more?

Two weeks, anyway. Two weeks and I will be in the UK with my boyfriend! 'WooT' doesn't quite cut it.

I've been making a list of the things I simply MUST do. We're not there terribly long, not this trip, so I'm trying to keep it simple.

I really want to go to the Doctor Who experience. Dave the BF isn't all that interested in Doctor Who (one of his failings!) but he's willing to go, cause he's nice like that. I've suggested me going alone on Friday while he naps at the hotel. On one hand, I rather like the idea of me wandering through London alone, just like a real person, but on the other hand I'm not sure wandering through an unfamiliar city whilst jet-lagged is the best thing to do. So we'll see. I do really want to see it though.

The other silly thing I want to do is go to an Oxfam shop. There's one near our hotel. One of my goals is to find the first Harry Potter book, so I can have a copy with the proper title.

We're going to wander through Harrods, and eat at Dave's favourite pub which I believe is near there; Friend in Need or something I think its called.

And we're going to go to Covant Garden, and the British Museum, and the Tower Bridge. And we're going to try to get to 221B Baker Street.

Anyone have any other suggestions? We're saving the big things for July when Charlie's with us, but is there anything you know of that I simply MUST get to?

[raises paw]

Haven't been to That London for years now, so can't much help with the things to peer at idea, but I hope you'll have a brilliant time :)

oooh, a thought! If you don't mind heights, you might want to go on the London Eye and get a bird;s eye view across the city.

Hee. I'm not fond of heights, and have never enjoyed Ferris Wheels, and Dave truly does not like heights, so the Eye is not on our list of things to do. (My mom's friends were sure he'll pop the question while romantically hovering over the city, but neither of us would be relaxed enough to be in a romantic mood!)

One thing that I'm looking forward to like the ridiculous Anglophile I am is that we're going to go into a supermarket. Dave's BIL is from South Africa and Dave has a standing order to get Bovril (I think it is) whenever he's in Europe, so we're going to shopping just like natives! :) I'm going to stock up on Hoops for Charlie. And chocolate.

I just had Welsh Cheddar from our market - nom. Dave doesn't like cheese (another failing!) but I will take your advice! (I wonder if I can bring chees back in my bags. Will have to check. Could be a customs no-no)

Oh, yeah. I'll get tea. No fear there!

Hey...do most Brits do tea at breakfast or is cofffee more the norm nowadays? Just curious.

Whittards! Stumbled into one of their shops and bought several tins of discount tea when I was there!

What's Forbiddent Planet?

I forgot about Kew Gardens. I did want to go there. And Camden Market sounds like fun. Not enough hours in the day!

Love your icon, BTW

No way, we're going to London in July too! And also Cardiff to do all the Who-vy things. We're going to do the Harry Potter WB Studio tour (already got my tickets for that), Madame Tussaud's (your son would love that), London Eye, Churchill War Rooms Museum, The Globe Theatre (you have to see that), Buckingham Palace, Stonehenge day trip, Tower of London/Crown Jewels. We don't have time to do this but there's a newly renovated SeaLife Aquarium that's supposed to be great. The DW Experience will have moved to Cardiff by then so we're seeing it there, plus there's a DW locations bus tour there. It's hard to fit everything in, isn't it exciting?

What dates are you going to be there? We're going to be there the last two weeks in July for the Olympics (Well, Dave is going for the Olympics. We're just along for the ride.)

Yes, I'm totally going to go to the Globe this trip. Have to. I think it will be closed, but trust me, there will be photos of me in front of it!

I'd like to go to Cardiff. I was also thinking of attemping a day trip to Brighton with Charlie while Dave is watching Tennis. May be too expensive/complicated though.

We're going the first week of July because we want avoid the Olympic chaos. Getting around the city then to sight see is going to be a challenge. Pack plenty of patience!

Cardiff is just two hours by train it's a doable day trip if you wanted to just hang out around Cardiff bay and do some local things. Brighton would be nice too in the summer.

I personally had to make a pilgrammage to Abbey Road, but that was just me

I believe I recall Covent Garden being a bit of a letdown. Sort of like a very open indoor mall. Unimpressive.

Did you want to try and meet up while you're over? I can be quite flexible with work so the only times I definitely couldn't do would be Thursdays and Sundays. I would also quite like to see the Doctor Who Experience.

Oh, that would be SOOOO great to meet with you.

My boyfriend isn't that interested in the Dr. Who thing - I was, as I said, thinking of going by myself on Friday, although I know he'd willingly tag along if I asked him. Would you be at all able/interested to maybe meet there on Friday at around 3 or so? I'll be jet-lagged beyond belief, but hopefully I won't scare you away! :)

I was going to say I'll send you my phone number, but I don't think my phone will work there. My boyfriend's will, though, so I can give you his number.

At any rate I'd love to meet with you (Any of you British folk, actually) if we can swing it.

That sounds like a good plan! I can't say for definite yet as it's possible that I may end up having a job interview. If the Friday ends up not being possible, I'm sure I'd be able to meet you on the Saturday if you're free.
