Why my Charlie is Awesome
Sep. 7th, 2012 07:42 amCharlie came home from his first day of school on Wednesday, beaming.
'How was it?' I asked.
'It was awesome!' he said. 'GIRLS talked to me.'
He likes his classes, he likes his teachers, and while he hasn't made a new best friend yet, he seems to be exchanging words with some of his classmates, so that's a start.
He said yesterday that he believes this school is better than his old one. I'm glad he thinks that, true or not, because I don't want him to regret having to leave his old school.
Frankly it astounds me how well Charlie has adapted to everything, the marriage, the move, the new school. He never once pulled the old teenager 'why are you doing this to meeee card, even when I wouldn't blame him to do so. He was born and grew up in Collingswood; they knew him at the school, he was comfortable there. Throwing him into a whole new situation was a big deal, and he completely accepted it with very little fuss.
Did I ever mention how Charlie named Dave his 'hometown hero' last year in an essay? Here's some exerpts:
My hometown hero's name is David, also known as my stepdad (note: this was before we were married) He is my hometown hero because he is nice, he helps me and he always cares for me and not himself.
I'm glad he and my mom got engaged so that we can finally live together in the summer
How many teenagers do you think accept their new step-parents that well?
He's not perfect, mind you, but sometimes I can't believe how lucky I am to have such an amazing child.
