Sep. 25th, 2012 07:37 amETA to add Laura Petrie icon. thanks
gehayi!
I've said on more than one occasion that I'd had a secret longing to be Laura Petrie - housewife and mother, making lovely dinners, hosting lovely parties, and keeping the homestead neat and tidy.
Since I've moved to PA that's what I've been doing more or less, and while I am still looking for work, and suffering from pangs of guilt for not working, even though Dave the Husband is awesome and reassuring, I'm enjoying the fact that I have the time and energy to do things like make proper suppers from scratch.
When we were in London I bought a cookery book - 'Traditional British Cookbook' as its called. I enjoy flipping through it and marking things that I think I may have a shot at making, and I've been successful so far.
Last night I made Sommerset Pork with Apples, and it was, in my opinion, the best receipe yet. It was such an autumn day yesterday, and that sounded so appropriate, I decided to give it a go. It was a bit fiddly, but otherwise not hard to prepare, and, if I do say so myself, I think I did it very well, right up to the cream sauce you pour over it. It was really tasty, and I was proud.
Oh...and I'm proud of this - we bought a 'Buckingham Palace' hand towel when we were at Buckingham palace, and it's in the loo. I was having a conversation with someone the other day, and I mentioned how I was thinking of putting some of our photos of Buckingham in the loo to sort of go with the theme, and she said 'because it's the throne room', which was really funny and I said I now had to do that, and we did, and it looks really good. So yay.
That's my life as of today. And now I must go make beds and clean the kitchen.
How are you? Everyone enjoying autumn so far?
